How can I use my oven more efficiently?

Having a fan assisted or multifunction oven with a fan speeds up the cooking process by about 10 minutes for every hour it is used. As well as this most ovens come with features that give you more control over cookChicken in an ovening. Look out for features such as:

  • Programmable timer – that allows you to set a start and stop time for your oven. This means you can have your food start cooking at a time that you set, or even just preheat the oven so that it will be ready when you need it.
  • Minute minder – counts down how long is left until your food is ready and gives an alarm when it is cooked. Great if you want to load your oven and focus on other things without having to worry about the time.
  • Glass door – for most people a glass oven door is something they take for granted but choosing an oven without a glass door makes a real difference. With a glass door you don’t need to open it in order to check on your food. Not opening the door when you check on your food means that the temperature inside the oven remains constant and cooking isn’t slowed down by cold air coming in.

Cleaning Features

One area that has seen a lot of development is easy to clean ovens. Features to look out for are:

  • Pyrolytic cleaning – a setting that heats up to 500°C which reduces any dirt into a fine ash that can be easily swept away.
  • Catalytic oven liners – absorb grease and helps to break it down when the oven is turned on. When the liners are exhausted they can be replaced. Almost, but not quite, as good as pyrolytic cleaning for saving time cleaning your oven.
  • Wipe clean surfaces – remember that flat surfaces are easier to clean so while a gas hob might offer great control you have to wipe around each of the burners individually
