Whirlpool ACM847/BA Built In Induction Hob - Black

Innovative cooking technology for the home. The ACM847/BA electric hob has 4 electric induction zones. The hobs create an electromagnetic field that heats the pan rather than the hob itself, keeping surface temperature low for increased safety. With such a low operational temperature spilled foodstuffs don’t stick to the surface, making cleaning easier. What’s more the induction hobs cook more quickly, boiling water in half the time a gas or standard electric hob takes.

"Measure Your Pans!"

Pros: Easy to use, Quiet, looks good

Cons: standard size pans do not fit

"I love how this hob works, it is easy to operate and very quick to bring pans to the boil. How I wish I could use it fully!

My complaint is that this hob is incompatible with the new induction pans and casserole I purchased that cost over £200. I have bought a set of 5 Tefal Premium pans, 3 saucepans and 2 frying pans, and also a Castey Fundix 7.5 litre casserole. My first problem is that none of these will work on the largest round ring of the hob. According to the instruction book, and the question and answer section of this website the largest round ring should take a pan with a base as small as 17cm. My large saucepan, large frying pan and casserole all have bases measuring 18cm yet the large ring does not recognise them.

My other problem is the smallest saucepan and smallest frying pan, both with a 14cm base, will only work on the smallest round ring. Again the instruction book and advice on this website is that the the large flexi-cook zone should take a pan as small as 14cm base, yet my small pans are not recognised so I cannot use them at the same time.

I have contacted Whirlpool about these problems and today their service engineer called, he couldn't find a problem with my pans and he didn't understand why the hob wouldn't recognise them. He returned later in the day after speaking to whirlpool technical section. This time he re-examined my pans and found the answer, although the bases meet the required sizes there is a rim around the base that is not magnetic. The Whirlpool hob only recognises the magnetic surface, hence my expensive pans are mainly incompatible. And I have one ring that I cannot use at all.

I have contacted Tefal and they tell me there pans are designed to work on hobs of all types, so the problem must be with Whirlpool. Yes I am going round in circles!

I strongly advise anyone purchasing new pans for this Whirlpool hob to take a along a tape measure and magnet, check where the base is magnetic and measure the size before buying. I have made a very expensive mistake and I hope my experience stops others making the same error."

"Very Pleased"

Pros: Value for money, Easy to use, Good build quality, Quiet, looks good

Cons: none

"Exceptionally controllable heat. Great features including the simmer mode (especially when pressure cooking). Timer function is also a bonus. Easy to clean. Have found no problem with using different sizes of pan, providing it has correct magneitism. 100% improvement on my old solid hob"

"INDUCTION IS GREAT"

Pros: Easy to use, Quiet

Cons: none

"Apart from being a great excuse for buying new pans (the old ones were not magnetic) this hob is a pleasure to cook with. I'm not very technical and was concerned that I would not like touch controls but they are very straight forward to use. Just ensure if you are using more than one ring that you are adjusting the temperature on the right zone. Temperature adjustment is very easy with the slide control and is instantly responsive which is a vast improvement on our old halogen hob but I find myself turning things down too low too soon. I'll soon get used to it! I love the combination zone, big enough to do the gravy in your roasting tin. I gave a 4 for cleaning only because the shiny surface shows every spec of dust so it never stays looking spotless for long, but this is not a big deal. I would not like to shake a wok on this glass area as I would be worried it might get scratched, which may be a concern to some.Highly recommend this product."

"Does exactly what is says on the tin!"

Pros: Easy to use, Good build quality, looks good

Cons: Noisy

"Had this hob for a couple of weeks now and really like it. I mostly use the left side for my normal sized pans and the little ring on the right for the occasional milk pan. The Large ring is great when you want to use a large stockpot or frying pan. Heats up the pans really quick and the boost function is amazingly fast. Only downside is its a bit noisy but you soon get used to it."

"A good buy"

Pros: Value for money, Easy to use, Good build quality, looks good

Cons: none

"Ok I have had this installed for about two weeks.. I have to say it is amazingly quick to boil water.

Tested against the kettle with the same amount of water. Kettle ( "which" award for speed ) 1.14 secs, the hob 1.50... I have just come from cooking with a gas burner for a year and I'd guess it would have been 3mins plus..

The control of the hob is instantaneous although I'm burning some of my dishes as the heat is very quick and very hot! I used to have to wait for about 5mins on the gas for a happy pan!.. ie steak hot.. with this its about 1 min.. seriously quick.

My only grumble is the sixth sense thing does not work or at least I can't get it working.. also when you put stuff on the hob over the touch sensors it beeps at you!.. no the less its a great bit of kit and I doubt anyone will be disappointed.. I love the swipe control"

Whirlpool ACM847/BA Hob

With no raised fittings, the ACM847/BA is topped with one smooth surface that makes cleaning as near as possible to being effortless. There are none of the awkward little nooks, crannies or removable parts that make cleaning a gas hob such a chore. The low operating heat means that spills don’t dry out or cook where they fall, letting you wipe them away in seconds!

The induction hob operates at a lower temperature than conventional designs because it heats the pan rather than the hob. This leads to faster cooking and a lower risk because the surface doesn’t get so hot. A residual heat indicator lights up with a warning until the hob has cooled to a temperature which is safe to touch.

Front mounted electronic controls and programmable timer are simple to use and make sure that you have complete control whilst cooking.
