Hotpoint FZFM171P Freestanding Upright Freezer - White

Tall and spacious. At 175cm tall, the Hotpoint FZFM171P gives you a large 220 litres of space that’s split over 7 compartments. You won’t ever need to defrost it either, as the Frost Free technology circulates air inside to stop ice building. The A+ energy rating helps to keep running costs down to less than 10p a day, and if you’re replacing an older model for a more efficient one you’ll save on your electricity bill too.

Product Reviews

"Very Pleased with purchase"

Pros: Easy to use, Good build quality, Quiet

Cons: none

"I bought this freezer as an addition to my big chest freezer, so that I can rotate my garden produce easier. I am very pleased with the capacity and the ease with which the drawers move. It is very quiet"

"It works - but poorly designed"

Pros: Good build quality, looks good

Cons: Noisy, door doesnt open far enough

"it works but the design is quite poor. I purchased this as an emergency order as our old freezer stopped working and all our Christmas food was in there.

The three issues I have are the whine of the compressor, the door only opens to 90deg which isnt very clever when trying to pull out the drawers and there is no external indication that the freezer is working."

"Hotpoint Freezer FZFM171P"

Pros: Value for money, Easy to use, Good build quality, door handle design

Cons: door handle

"I was guided by the Which? review on the twin to this Hotpoint, the Indesit version. I was able to view the two side by side on a shop floor and the similarities are obvious. (Indesit is now the company that owns Hotpoint as a brand. In my opinion tne same design basics apply to both.) However, the Indesit has a more ingenious ice cube tray design (incorporated in the drawer fronts) whilst the Hotpoint has a feature that releases the vacuum when pulling on the handle to open the door. Other than this, these two appliances appear identical other than cosmetics. Both are rated A+ for energy use and whilst the Hotpoint was not tested by Which, I suspect both have the same mechanicals and performance under the skin. In the end I plumbed for the Hotpoint as I preferred a visually matching pair of fridge and freezer and the Hotpoint Fridge was the better offering (internal design) for me at a similar price for the two appliances.

Noise:

Compared to our two previous fridge/freezer combined units, this is much quieter and not at all intrusive in our kitchen environment.

Issues:

The only potential weakness I note may be the handle. It looks like it could break if anything should catch it in a lateral direction (i.e. 90 degrees to the direction of opening the door). Additionally and mentioned in other reviews, if you buy the fridge and freezer and choose to have the handles side by side, please be aware that the unit walls cannot be flush against each other due to the handle design, although the instructions suggest that one should allow 5cm "breathing" space around both sides anyway... As for the controls and lights being hidden behind the door, this is not an issue for me. Should you need to use the "extra freeze" function, you'd be opening the door anyway to put any unfrozen foods in. Doors only open to 90 degrees and this requires more space on the hinged side of the Indesit version compared to the Hotpoint."

"Very pleased"

Pros: Value for money, Easy to use, large capacity, frost free

"Early days and of course a freezer is a freezer but we're pleased with its large capacity and performance after 2 weeks. Would have preferred the display panel to be readily visible but have to open the door to view. There's a warning for leaving the door open for more than 2 mins which is good but could get annoying if you're moving items around for longer."

"an excellent buy"

Pros: Value for money, Easy to use, Good build quality, Quiet, looks good, separate drawers make contents easy to find., tall not wide so fits narrow space.

Cons: none

"It is a joy - Yes ! - to have plenty of easy to manage freezer space with several drawers to store different types of food in however I want to sort it ! eg one for meat one for frozen chips one for veg etc etc. It freezes food efficiently and it is very convenient to be able to buy a number of items with short sell- by dates and therefore often reduced in price and freeze some until needed. Also useful to take up special offers such as 3 for the price of two etc It means of course that I can use less petrol as I can make less frequent visits to the supermarket :-) I thoroughly recommend this tall freezer and am very satisfied with my purchase !"

Hotpoint FZFM171P Upright Freezer

Whether you want to replace your old freezer, or need extra room for your frozen food, the Hotpoint FZFM171P has plenty of space – 220 litres to be exact. Standing tall at 175cm, the extra height gives you more room inside without taking up extra floor space. You get 7 compartments in total, and they range in different sizes. The white finish will suit any kitchen, and the door and handle are fully reversible, so you can adjust it around your layout.

It comes with frost free technology which is really handy for a freezer this big. It keeps the cold air moving around inside, stopping ice from forming. It makes life easier as you’ll never need to defrost, and items like your sausages will be much easier to separate.

Your freezer is one of the few appliances in the home that needs to be on 24/7, and that can seem like an expensive thing. This model has achieved an A+ energy rating, which is much more efficient than a freezer that’s a couple of years old. You’ll pay an average of £36 a year to run it, and that works out to around 10p a day so you’ll make a noticeable saving on your bills if replacing a similar sized freezer.
