Product Reviews

"Expensive but worth it"

Pros: Value for money, Easy to use, Good build quality, Quiet, looks good

Cons: Expensive, ring positions could be better

"It really looks and feels robust. The hob is deep and easy to clean. The finish is matt and so you have to be careful not to use an abrasive on it. The oven is big and heats really quick. Sometimes too quick and catches you out if you're not ready - but that's a good thing too. It bakes really evenly. On the fan setting you don't even need to turn cakes/bread around. The gas rings are graded in size to facilitate all types of cooking, of course, but I don't know why they put the medium rings, both of them, at the back which leaves the big 'stir-fry' ring and the tiny 'turkish coffee' ring at the front. Personally I would prefer to have at least one of the medium rings at the front because you use them more. We've used the pyrolyse self-clean system on one occasion and it was remarkable. I don't know how many units of electric it costs but instead of looking at the prospect of dodgy chemicals, gloves and elbow grease, it's just a matter of brushing off a bit of ash - and hardly any of that, as it seems to vapourise most of it. Finally, the controls are easy to use and don't feel like they will snap off in a hurry. You can move them quickly to minimum without having to bend your knees and study the flame intently which doesn't look very professional when you're trying to impress your partner."

"Disappointing to say the least!"

Cons: poor quality

"We have owned the cooker for exactly a year today, and in that year we have had to call out a smeg engineer 3 times! It's supposedly self clean... Ours never has! Apparently it wasn't gettin hot enough so when I used it instead of turning it to ash, it congealed itself on the floor and the door of the cooker. Which I have never been able to remove. The clock display became faulty, the cast iron supports started to rust, had them replaced, and within 3 months they are rusting again! Even if I leave them to dry overnight! Pathetic!"

"An excellent cooker"

Pros: Value for money, Easy to use, Good build quality, looks good, spacious oven

Cons: fan noisy at certain temperatures, control knobs too easily moved

"We are glad we decided to buy this model. It looks good & it performs very well. So far it has been very easy to clean. On the downside the control knobs can be easily turned without realising this has happened. The fan can also rattle for a short while during both heating & cooling. Overall an excellent purchase though"

"Best cooker ever"

Pros: Value for money, Good build quality, Quiet, looks good

Cons: none

"So pleased with our choice. Everything about the cooker is great. Have to agree with other reviewers that the knobs can be moved accidentally but we have adjusted to that quickly. As this is the first time I have owned a cooker with a rotisserie and an integral grill (I have always had a separate grill function on previous cookers) I would have appreciated a more comprehensive instruction book but I'm learning fast! Very impressed with the speed at which the over heats up and the accuracy of the thermostat - oven temp is consistent and a great aid to successful baking."

"Really good quality cooker"

Pros: Good build quality, looks good, efficient

Cons: clock function is complex

"We recently moved in to a house with a poorly functioning gas oven, which cooked very unevenly, making it unsuitable for bread baking. My wife is a sourdough baker and she demanded a new oven!

This has proven to be an excellent choice. The build quality is very good and it is surprisingly efficient. The quadruple glazed door means virtually no heat escapes from the oven when in use, meaning that it heats up very fast and with the fan function cooks very evenly. For bread baking this means excellent, thin, crispy crust.

The rotisserie function is very handy for cooking a chicken, you just need to make sure it is well attached to the rotisserie, otherwise the bird can flap about as it turns.

The top wok burner is very powerful and the deep spill trays are easy to clean. it's a good looking oven and I would highly recommend it."

"What I expected"

Pros: Value for money, Easy to use, Good build quality, Quiet, looks good, fan doesn't stay on for ages and it's economical

Cons: Expensive, electric flex too short

"There's nothing wrong with saying "I like the look of it". I know it's a utility purchase, but this just looks great in the kitchen, first and foremost. Secondly, it's built strong or at least it looks to be built strong. Time will tell. The oven heats up much quicker than a cheaper oven. The smallest gas hob is useful for when you don't want to burn the garlic. The large one is brilliant for really getting some heat underneath. But I would prefer the smallest hob to be at the back and one of the 2 medium sized ones to be at the front. The flex is too short (unless that's a safety thing)."

Smeg SUK61PX8 Cooker

The SUK61PX8 is a marvel in stainless steel. 4 gas burners give you fast, responsive cooking power on top, but the real marvels are contained in its spacious 79 litre oven.

A rotisserie function means that everything from kebabs to quails can be cooked with ease, but that’s not all! The clever people at Smeg have also included a pyrolytic feature, which removes the need to use detergents when cleaning. The programme heats the interior of the oven to 500°C to simply burns away grease build-up. Quadruple glazing on the silvered glass door make sure that the outer door will only reach a maximum temperature of 55°C, and the cycle is carried out in total safety as the door will automatically lock whilst the pyrolytic process is going on.

This feature means that the oven is not only easy to clean, but will work at top efficiency for much longer.

Even with all this extra gadgetry, it has a highly efficient A rating, helping you to keep costs down and do your bit to protect the environment. What’s more it comes with a 1 year warranty as standard, letting you relax and concentrate on the cooking!
