Lec TL55142W Freestanding Fridge - White

It only costs 4p a day to run. Thanks to its efficient A+ rating, the Lec TL55142W will not only be good to the environment, but your wallet too. Working out to just over £15 a year, it’s a running cost that will be a lot smaller than any older and less efficient fridge. It's so efficient, it's even endorsed by the Energy Saving Trust. The slightly smaller 54.5cm width means it takes up less floor space, but the extra height gives you more storage – an impressive 245 litres.

"My favourite kitchen appliance"

Pros: Value for money, Easy to use, Good build quality, Quiet, looks good, an excellent in between size

Cons: v. slightly prone to have water on inside back

"A highly successful buy. This item is ideal when space is limited. Adequate shelf space, lots of door space plus a salad draw. I would rate the storage space availabe as being suitable for a small families needs. In order to avoid having any water appearing on the back panel I use temperature level of 2 which is slightly higher than having used on previous fridges."

"Larder Fridge"

Pros: Value for money, Easy to use, Good build quality, Quiet, looks good

Cons: needs bionic man to undo nuts

"Build quality is good. However, I had to change the door over to use the appliance. The booklet providing instructions states "may require a spanner". Hmm, not only do you need spanner, but also super human strength to be able to undo the nuts, particularly the pivotal one onto which the door is hung. This screw is circular, so one is not able to apply any spanner to undo it, and there is no grip to help you.

As I live on my own it took me several hours over 2 nights to get the door changed over. At one point I contemplated ringing LEC to suggest an engineer call to assist with undoing the nuts. I am by no means a pathetic female, for those people reading this who might think that.

Manufacturers note-while the nuts need to be done tightly, perhaps leave half a turn so that if doors need to be changed, it is easier!"

"Good and Bad"

Pros: Value for money, Quiet, looks good

Cons: switching door

"We are pleased with the quality and look of the appliance however we needed to change the position of the door and it was a hassle. Unfortunately we didn't have all the socket sizes required to remove the bolts and didn't own a pair of grips. This delayed us getting the fridge up and running which was disappointing."

"worst fridge ever"

Pros: looks good

Cons: poor quality, Expensive

"I purchased Lec fridge TL55142W 20 months ago. Some of plastic shelf fronts were cracked. After 11 months compressor packed up but was replaced under warranty. Nine months later (may 2014) the compressor has packed up again but warranty on replaced parts is only three months, how bad is that. I have e-mailed Lec customer service but three days later no response. I'm sure there are people happy with their Lec fridges but if you get a rogue one you are on your own. Does anyone want a duff Lec fridge going cheap?"

"Not as flexible as previous models"

Pros: Value for money, Easy to use, Good build quality, Quiet, looks good

Cons: shelf spacing

"I have previously owned 2 of these LEC Larder Fridges - the first lasted 10 years, the second lasted 9 years. Unfortunately, the 2 previous fridges had much more flexibility in the spacing of the shelves than this one. Also, if you place milk bottles along the lowest door shelf, the salad drawer prohibits the cold air getting to the milk bottles. When placing fresh milk bottles onto the bottom shelf (which are not in themselves cold, as they have just come off of the doorstep), they never get the chance to get reasonably cold (as happened with the first bottles of milk that I received from the milkman when I first bought the fridge). The only place to put fresh milk bottles is on the second shelf up, limiting the amount of milk that can be stored at any one time. I am limited to the 55cm width of this fridge, and the fact that I can re-hang the door to left hand opening, but I will probably look elsewhere next time - a real shame, as I have always been very happy with my previous LEC fridges."

Lec TL55142W Fridge

The Lec TL55142W is a really big fridge. With 245 litres of space, it’s great for a family of 4 that like to stock up on fresh food and drink. The extra space is down to the 144cm height, which is taller than most fridges, but it won’t take up much floor space being only 54.5cm wide.

It won’t take up much electricity too, with an impressive A+ energy rating. It means you can expect to pay as little as 4p – way cheaper than any older fridge. You also get a bright interior light, giving you a good view on your food.

There’s plenty of storage inside with 5 shelves, and you can adjust 4 of them to fit around your bulkier items. The salad drawer is also full width, which can hold larger items. You also get several door trays – 3 full width ones with 4 smaller ones in the middle so you can group your eggs and cheeses.

You won’t find ice building up inside this fridge, because the auto defrost will melt it away. It will not only keep your fridge running efficiently, but makes it much easier to clean as you won’t have to manually scrape the ice off.
