Indesit VIA640C Built In Induction Hob - Black

A quicker, better way to cook. Induction cooking. It’s here. It’s going to blow your socks off. The Indesit VIA640C Induction hob is a slab of black magic that uses magnetic fields so the pan itself is the heating element. The 4 induction zones are controlled via touch panels for more effective cooking regulation and the thinness of the hob itself is a great feature if you want to save space. We even offer an installation service now, so you won't have the hassle of doing it all yourself. Sorted.

"Technology that Really Works"

"I have been really impressed with this Induction Hob. My wife told me to expect a near or better response time and controllability to a gas hob - which I was sceptical of - but it really does meet (and dare I suggest, exceed) this.

My first experience was when I was asked to boil some potatoes. I peeled the pots and then placed a medium sized pan half-full with water on the hob and set it to full power to bring it to the boil. I turned back to the pots and chopped them. When I turned back to the pan it was already boiling! Amazing!! What's more, when I turned the heat control down to half way the response was almost instant. Wonderful.

You won't regret turning to this induction hob ..."

"check your wiring first"

Pros: Easy to use, looks good

"I bought this item online for a new kitchen extension. We previously had a gas hob and electric cooker- and with the price of gas doubling every year as this scarce resource begins to run out, I thought it made sense to go for electric this time. I read the reviews, and even though I had never touched an induction hob nor knew anybody who owns one- I went for it.The results seems to depend on factors I have not yet got used to.Possibly related to the efficiency of the pans in use? I bought a brand new set of pans designed for induction hobs. The frying pan on a large hotplate cooked so quickly that I burned some fish fingers TWICE- yet they were still frozen in the middle- so I need to learn to use a lower heat and be patient.Whereas a small pan on the small hotplate took ages to boil some eggs- I just could not get the water to visibly boil. After 10 mins I removed an egg to find it was hardboiled not softboiled. So even though the water was not visibly bubbling- the heat was still cooking the eggs!- seems that practice and experience are needed to judge things.

One point to notice- as it was being fitted in a new build extension- I had already had a new electric cooker point fitted 32 amps. This hob takes a whopping 7 kilowatts so could not be connected to the exisiting 32amps cooker point as the oven below it takes 5 kilowatts. Luckily as the builders were still on site- they fitted me a second electric point- but if you are not prepared for this it will catch you out. The electtrician said he sees this scenario all the time- people do not realise that the combined load of an electric hob and electric oven together excede what is a allowed on a single cooker point !"

"Induction Hob"

Pros: Quiet, Easy to use, Good build quality, Value for money, so easy to clean

"This si the second induction hob I have bought. The first was much more expensive so I decided to see if a cheaper model does the same job.

It was simple to install, very quick and easy to use and ideal wipe clean,

I would recommend this product."

"Excellent"

Pros: Quiet, Easy to use, Good build quality, Value for money

"I have had ceramic hobs for years, but this induction hob heats up as fast as gas, easy to control heat, and super easy to clean. I chose this hob because I didnt want all the extras which I wouldnt use, like a timer, and a booster button which isnt needed as its response is so quick. I am delighted with this hob, a fair price, and it makes cooking a much easier job."

"A piece of junk"

Pros: none

Cons: poor quality, unreliable

"It's temperamental. This hob will decide when it wants to work, which is 10% of the time, and even then, it's a lottery as to whether it will keep working for the entire time you'll need to use it.

Five stars for ease of cleaning for the simple reason I can't use it often enough to get it to a state where it needs cleaning.

I've booked a total of four 'repair visits' with Indesit, two of which the 'engineer' has had no spares, one he's replaced a part which has added new faults on top of the existing one. I'm not holding out any hope of the fourth being of any use.

Thanks to this appliance Christmas dinner was ruined. Well done Indesit.

Very apt that a spellcheck wants to change Indesit to Indecent."

"Glad I changed to induction"

Pros: Easy to use, Good build quality, Quiet, looks good

Cons: need new pans

"Very pleased so far. Easy to use and clean. No fiddy bits to clean like my old gas hob.

Had to buy new pans but Lakeland do a basic set for about £85 and they seem fine on the new hob."

Indesit VIA640C

Induction technology is the next step in cooking. Soon, you’ll be wondering why we don’t all have one of these in our homes. By creating a magnetic field that generates the heat through the base and sides of the pan, whatever you are cooking will get hotter much quicker than conventional means.

With induction hobs, energy and time are used so much more effectively, saving you money in the long run and generally making life easier.

There are 9 different power levels, which are quickly and easily controlled through the touch panel at the front. There’s a handy heat indicator light but one of the beauties of induction technology is that because the pan is the heating element, the hob itself stays cool to the touch. This makes cleaning so simple and prevents accidents. Just in case, there’s a child lock too, so curious hands won’t get into trouble.

Bearing in mind that you will need induction compatible pans, which may cost you in the short term, if you’re thinking about the years to come you really can’t go wrong with the Indesit VIA640C.
