"Can't Fault It"
Pros: Value for money, Easy to use, Good build quality, Quiet, looks good
"I've had a Dyson washing machine for 10 years and was used to having a large drum and the ability to totally customise the wash/temp/spin as I wished. But when it packed up in December and couldn't be repaired I didn't have hundreds of pounds to spend on a replacement. I also wanted to thoroughly research our purchase and found this website really useful, hence this extended review!
I chose the Hotpoint based on other good reviews and because it was the cheapest, large capacity, AAA rated washer dryer available for next day delivery. I took a chance on buying unseen and have not been disappointed!
This machine is not quite as advanced as the Dyson but at a third of the price, and with a dryer as well, I cannot fault it!
The Hotpoint has lots of wash options; I choose one that best suits my idea of the required wash time and temp, I don't necessarily use the suggested program for the type of washing I have eg cottons/synthetics etc
In fact I have tended to stick to the same program and just change the temperature I want things washed at. If I still need to tweak I can then either do a Super Wash for really filthy stuff (clothes I've worn round the farm, dog drying towels etc) or a Time Saver wash for things that are lightly soiled.
I've yet to try the Eco option as I use a powder and the Eco option is best with liquid but I can see how that could save water and energy on 'normally' soiled items.
I haven't used the drying function yet - I had a massive backlog of laundry to do since our old washer packed up weeks before this purchase so the Hotpoint has just been washing - endlessly in fact, easily one or two loads per day for a fortnight now, and it has coped easily!
We still have what I considered a large capacity dryer -6kg- which is doing all the drying for now. It was bought second hand a couple of years ago so I decided a washer dryer would be a wise move in case it gives up.
I didn't realise it is the same capacity as the Hotpoint so I'm pleasantly surprised that I have not compromised there either and I will not need to decant clothes in future when I want to wash and dry in one go as this machine should manage the lot.
The drying times look a bit longer than I'm used to, but I don't honestly think I'll notice. In fact it'll be nice to put dirty clothes in at night and find clean dry clothes there the next morning!
I am slightly wary of the drying ability as I have used a different washer dryer in a holiday cottage and was not impressed. It's a different brand, smaller capacity, it was slightly cheaper to buy, and unfortunately I found it left everything crumpled and not always completely dry so it all needed ironing, which I was not happy about!
I have not really experimented with the drying options to see if this issue can be solved and as such I decided not to let this affect my decision to purchase a washer dryer and other reviews of this Hotpoint convinced me it would be as good as a stand alone tumble dryer.
The one thing I would like to control is the spin speed - I went for a fast spin machine thinking it would reduce drying times but not all programmes allow 1400, instead automatically selecting 800 for programmes which could maybe handle a higher spin.
If you feel the need you can always choose the extra spin for items you think need it, but so far everything has been dry enough after the recommended cycle to go straight in the dryer so perhaps this is something else I can experiment with.
I don't find this machine noisy - it's under the stairs in the hall, with a door between the hall and the living room. The dishwasher makes more noise than this with the kitchen door closed.
I think it is easy to use- just read the book and keep the pages of wash cycles open while you get used to it, I've still got mine handy!
It seems like a solidly built machine, it looks good, and the price was great - even my husband was very impressed with my choice having not seen it before hand!
All in all we are very happy with the machine so far."
