Amica IN622M Beige Built-in Electric Single Oven
I was a bit unsure about the colour of this oven prior to receiving it as the colour is described as beige, I wanted my new oven to blend in with the surrounding wooden kitchen furniture and I have to say it does just that! The colour works so well and actually does look different in different lights/ time of day but in a good way. I would highly recommend this choice of colour if you have an all wooden kitchen as it compliments it perfectly.
The overall look of the oven is excellent, it is stylish, clean and modern looking, very subtle but very impressive. You can tell from the outset that it is a good quality oven just by the sheer look and feel of it. It looks like an expensive bit of kit!
The oven has two dials, one controlling the oven functions and the other to control the oven temperature. It also has a touch control panel in the centre which contain the selections for the clock settings, kitchen timer, duration and end time settings, oven capacity and meat probe temperature settings, fast heat up and the oven light. This panel also displays the time when the oven is off which is very handy.
The oven came with a baking tray, a roasting tray, a meat probe, grill grate and sliding telescopic runners on one shelf, which to me was a huge bonus as there is no need to rest heavy trays, cooking pots etc on the glass when checking your food/stirring etc reducing the risk of burning yourself! I love the runners, I’ve not had them in an oven before and wouldn’t go back to one that didn’t have this feature again!
The operating manual states that the oven should be cleaned, oven accessories be removed and cleaned and then the oven should heated to 250 degrees for 30 minutes prior to first use. The manual says to ventilate the room and I can’t stress enough how important this is as the oven gives off a really really strong smell during this time. I had two windows and a patio door open and the smell actually gave me a headache. The manual doesn’t specify whether or not you should return the oven accessories to the oven for the pre-use heating, I did 30 mins without and then added the accessories for a further 30 mins to be on the safe side.
The oven has 10 functions to choose from including heating with or without fan assistance, grill, defrosting and cleaning. There is a table of oven functions in the manual but to be honest I will be looking up those functions on ine (Cooking ones) as I personally don’t know when it is better to have the fan on/off, top heater v bottom heater etc when cooking different food types however I can see how all of these functions clearly displayed is extremely helpful to the more advanced cook or baker! The oven has a 65 Litre capacity cavity, which for our family is plenty of room. You can easily cook a roast dinner in the oven for a medium sized family. I think a larger family might struggle a bit on space and should opt for a double oven.
My favourite (non-cooking) feature of this oven is the residual heat indicator which is a strip of light running along the oven door handle which indicates when the oven is still hot even when you have switched it off! Brilliant!! Especially for families who have young children running about, it is immediately clear from a distance that the oven hasn’t cooled down! The touch display also shows the temperature of the oven decreasing when it’s switched off so you can see how hot it still is. It has also got a child lock to stop children from changing the oven settings which is a good idea!
It has an ‘Aqualytic cleaning system’ feature, this again is something that I have never had before and as yet have not had to use it as I have only had the oven less than a week. I see this as a huge bonus, based on previous experience of oven cleaning, any help with the cleaning process must be a plus and reading the instructions it sounds really straight forward and easy to do.
The Eco function is a genius idea to safe energy and lets you set it so the heaters turn off 5 mins before the end of the cooking time and it uses the residual heat to continue cooking! The heating element also switches itself off when you open the door and switches itself back on again when the door closes!
I found this oven a pleasure to use, not too complicated to work out, (although it took me a while to get used to it) amazingly quick to heat up and even more so when using the fast heat up function (I have always hated waiting for ovens to heat up so this feature is a fantastic!), it produced an even cook (Compared to my old terrible cooker!) and is extremely quiet!
Pros: • Colour blends in well with wooden kitchen units, • General stylish feel and look of the oven, • Soft door closing, Eco Function, Fast oven heat upCons: instruction manual could be easier to follow
