Works well but let down by design.

Pros:Value for money, Good build quality, looks good, accurate temperature even cooking

Cons:Noisy, difficult to clean, grill slow to heat up, need to lift grill pan out to turn food over, can't control light

"I bought thisoven last year as the least worst option to replace my 30 year old Moffat. There were only three built in gas ovens with seperate grill on the market - all fairly low spec, and this was the only one with a grill tempertaure control. (with the other two you have to take everything out and move the shelf to go cooler or warmer!) It was not expensive, and I have been extremely pleased with its oven cooking performance. Using the grill shelf as a third oven shelf increases its capacity, and the minute minder is very useful. To that extent is is very good value for money. However, a bit of extra thought in the design - especially the grill - would have made it so much better. Despite the grill temperature being controllable, I discovered to my dismay that you still have to take the pan out and find somewhere to put it down every time you adjust the food - or risk burning the backs of your hands. My old grill had a shelf with a safety stop to prevent it sliding out altogether, with a lip at the front to stop the pan sliding off. Thus the pan still on the shelf could be pulled clear completely clear of the hot areas without having to lift it down to adjust the food. On this oven the grill pan is deep from front to back, and there are no stops on the shelf. Even with the shelf pulled out as far as possible the back of the pan still comes under the hot top edge, so trying to adjust the food without burning your hands is difficult. Although the grill cavity is large, the grill area is small by comparison, and doesn't cook very evenly - hence one has to keep moving food around, and lifting the pan out each time to do it - which can be difficult if your hands are stiff or painful. Also, when the oven is on, the grill area doesn't ly warm up enough for effective plate warming. A side hinged rather than drop down door would be easier to manage. Hot heavy items have to be lifted out over the door. Bending down to reach over the top of the drop down door to get to items at the back isn't always easy, especially for those with short arms, or a bad back. (most professional ovens have side hinged doors so why do home cooks have to make do with drop down?) The oven has no programmer - why??? This is so useful, and is standard on built in electric ovens. The oven light is crazy. It has no on/off switch. It wastes energy by staying on throughout cooking time, yet one has to use a torch for cleaning as you can't switch the light on to see what you are doing! Cleaning this oven is a nightmare. Without catalytic liners, (none of the built in gas ovens had them) I am back to scourers and elbow grease for the first time in 30 years! The removable ladders for the shelves are a pain - literally. They are very stiff to remove and difficult with somewhat arthritic hands. The rungs are close together and need to be scoured individually, as the dishwasher doesn't always get them completely clean. Oven sides moulded in a wavy shape to take the shelves would be much easier - and could be incorporated into a catalytic liner. The drop down door also makes cleaning difficult. To clean the oven ceiling one has stand bent with neck twisted over the side of the door, with a torch in one hand and scourer in the other. If the door hinged at the side, at least one could kneel down squarely in front of it! This oven seems to me to be a great wasted opportunity. It cooks beautifully although the grill performance could be improved, and is a good size, but is missing the features and ease of use one would expect to find on a built in dual compartment oven. Built in ovens appeal to older people for whom grovelling down to lift hot and heavy dishes can be a safety issue, but little thought seems to have been given to potential users with infirmities or who are simply just older and stiffer. Younger purchasers of built in dual compartment ovens are generally looking for a premium product, with convenience features, as they are obviously prepared to pay for the cabinets to house it, and have a kitchen large enough to acccomodate it. I have always cooked with gas, but seriously considered going electric before settling for this one as the least worst option, due to the gas choice for a built in oven being so poor. However, the new electricity regulations would have meant unnecessarily upgrading our whole le ground floor wiring (floor boards up etc:) before being allowed to install a seperate cooker circuit. I have heard of many others who find for the same reason that they cannot "go electric" without a lot of expense and hassle. There therefore needs to be a better range of higher end gas cookers."

    Better than expected

Pros:Easy to use, Good build quality, Value for money

"I ordered the new oven/grill as a replacement for my 22 years old fully automatic new World split level which couldn't be repaired. I expected to be disappointed because it didn't have an automatic programmer to delay start of cooking , but I was pleasantly surprised when my cakes came out even better than in the old one, and I found everything cooked faster. I love the large grill pan and its removable handle, and I haven't missed the programmable clock. I also like the removable shelf holders which can go in the dishwasher. Very easy to clean. Great oven."

    NW90G Single Ovens

Pros:Quiet, Good build quality, Value for money

Cons:the sleves are difficult to adjust

"The top grill doesn't keep the plates warm. My old world cooker had that facility. The oven is smaller and the grill is bigger. In my opinion I would prefer the oven to have more capaciity. The sheeves can be very difficutl to aline as you need very good visual awarenwes."

    Good replacement

Pros:Quiet, Easy to use, Good build quality, Value for money

"This oven was a replacement for an obsolete New World oven. It has proved better than the original in nearly every aspect. The only thing i would like changed is the grill pan. However this is a small point."

    Good Purchase

    Pros:Quiet, Easy to use

"Although the product meets most of our needs, we do find the grill lacking. For example when toasting the heat seems to be concentrated in one small area making it difficult to toast more than one slice evenly. Other than that the product has been very good. The oven has not presented any problems. It may be a little small for large families but for two of us it is fine."
