A new day for healthy eating. Hotpoint’s versatile Steam Blender releases 100°C steam into the cavity, cooking your vegetables in the healthiest way possible before blending them with stainless steel blades. Make healthy, additive-free baby food for your little bundle of joy. Or whip up crowd-pleasing soups like parsnip or carrot and squash, made in one easy-to-clean appliance. There's even a handy basket so you can cook asparagus or other veg to go alongside your meal. And you can use it without the steamer to make smoothies and milkshakes. Brilliant.
First off, let's be positive about some of the very attractive features of this blender. first off it looks the part, sleek black and brushed steel make for a very sexy piece of kit, the motor is a monster and quickly pulverizes ice (always a good test) for example for those coffee house style blended coffees, it's quiet and doesn't jump around.
When it comes to blending veg for example it smashes through the task in mere seconds. The unique feature of this blender however is the steam feature.
The instructions, such as they are, are a bit on the sparse side and if i am to believe the booklet i must cook every thing first before blending and steaming into a lovely soup. i found this not to be the case, chuck it all in, steam and blend and you get a great soup.
The steam only function works well but as i was cooking for 4 i found the size to be a bit limiting, but it is ideal for say asparagus because it keeps it upright and stop it going soggy.
As for cleaning, as with any blender cleaning under the blades can be fiddly, especially as they are nice and sharp, they really slice rather than pounding the food into submission.
All in all a really nice blender with a novelty feature, ideal for people cooking for one or two, but if you need more than that stick to a big steamer and just use the blend feature.
My main moan is the lack of clarity in the instruction booklet, i work as a chef and i use blenders of various makes everyday and even i found the how to use the steam and blend feature a bit of a challenge.

Best dual action appliance
Pros: Good build quality, looks good, powerful motor, sharp blades
Cons: Lack of clarity in the instruction booklet
This appliance has a solid, secure base and is heavy-duty which makes blending and crushing much easier.
It can be used either as an ordinary blender, or a steamer, or both.
It can also be used for making and blending soups, purees, desserts, and even crushed ice, i.e. anything a blender is required to do.
What makes this appliance unique is the steamer function which makes it easier to prepare healthy meal and preserve the nutrients.
The appliance comes with a removable stainless steel wire basket for placing food for steaming. It has a good 2l capacity to feed a family of 4 and contribute to healthy eating. Making nutritious homemade meals has never been made so easy and fun..
Whilst it does not come with step by step instructions, it’s very easy to use once you figure it out. I was unsure as to how to remove the jug after cooking. I realised that there was no release mechanism and you simply have to pull straight up whilst firmly gripping the handle.
The steamer and the blender make some loud weird sounding noises which may take getting used to.
The steam generation function has a separate control switch from the blending function and allows to switch from one function to another. The steam generator has a LED digital timer which can be set from 1 to 30 minutes and switches off automatically.
The blender has 4 speed settings, going from slow to very fast, as well as a pulse speed which lasts as long as you keep a finger on the knob.
The blender has six very sharp blades set at different angles for quick thorough cutting action. The only downside is that they are set and fixed in the jug base unit which make them difficult to clean.
The heat resistant glass jug, fits into a plastic base unit, made of a special non-stick material. However it doesn’t have a bottom and seals via a soft nylon ring, unscrews from the plastic base unit which makes making the cleaning much easier.
The overall impression is that this blender is very well built, has adequate power, and is likely to last for quite a few years.
