Handy Hot Cup! The VKJ142 Hot Cup hot water dispenser from Breville gives you boiling water at the touch of a button, in a matter of seconds! The 1.5 litre capacity means it’ll dispense five 250ml sized cups of boiling water without the need to refill, perfect if you’ve got company. The Hot Cup’s sleek and innovative design with blue illumination on boil will bring a sense of theatre to your kitchen! Not only does the Hot Cup save time, it also saves on electricity as it dispenses just one cup of water, just boiling the water you need. It’s easy to refill with the main unit lifting off the base, and there’s a removable drip tray, which is easy to clean and dishwasher safe.
I've seen a few reviews where people complain about the length of the power lead. Its the same length as a standard kettle lead so I fail to see the issue. There is an extra turn of flex wound around the base, maybe they hadn't noticed that!
It supplied me with a hot cup of water in 40 seconds which i think is fantastic.
Time will tell how long it will last....
Pros: Ease to use, Looks good, Nice blue illumination, Value for moneyCons: Noisy

Good...but flawed design
Bought this item for my elderly & infirm mum. At face value, it is a useful, safer, alternative to a heavy kettle but...
1. When face on to the user, the handle is at the rear. This makes it difficult for the user (in my case, my elderly mum) to couple or decouple from the base plate.
2. The power cord isn't long enough to allow the device to be positioned side on to the user. If the cord was longer, then access to the reservoir's handle would be a lot easier...and safer.
3. The water inlet to the reservoir is quite narrow, making filling directly from a tap potentially messy. Using a lipped jug is a reasonable workaround.
4. It is quite noisy in operation, more so than most domestic kettles in my view.
On the upside, operating the device is simplicity itself, with 250ml of water boiling / dispensing into a mug within a few seconds. The 1.25 litre capacity means that it is good for 5 standard mugs. It is always worth experimenting with a measuring cup first, though, to avoid overspill.
I've given a 3-star rating based on the downsides mentioned, but in the hands of someone more nimble than my dear old mum it should be much easier to handle....and I am considering buying one for myself.

Pros: Ease to use, Good build quality, Looks good, Value for money

Great for brew fanatics
This is a great piece of kit, biggest downside is the fact you can't change the cup size however because you can make more brews choosing a small cup is actually a good thing. Occasionally messes up if you boil straight after you sometimes only get half a cup, so just wait 30 seconds before cooking the power again.
Pros: Ease to use, Value for money
Female, Over 65, Couple from Middle England
Best thing for older folk (younger too)
I bought two of these when they first came out (6 +yrs ago). The first one used lasted 4 years and was used at least 10 times a day. The second one is still in use and not showing any problems but am about to order a replacement for when it stop working. I live in hard water area so de-scale once a month. It's only noisy when it's ready for replacement.
Pros: Ease to use, Good build quality, Looks good, Quiet, Safer to use than a kettle

Bought this for my disabled father to make life a little easier. It takes seconds to heat the water, it's stylish and it's easy to clean...what more can you ask for! Thought initially that tea/coffee may go colder quicker but it's not the case with this, would highly recommend to anyone
