Sleek product, with an unusual manufacturing issue

My first impressions of the washer dryer after unboxing was how strikingly good looking it was. Well, for a washing machine anyway! The appliance is nicely finished in a high gloss black, a flush door porthole with a small amount of detailing around the top panel. The second impression of the machine was just how heavy this thing is. And I mean *really* heavy. It’s not weighed in kilos or tons, but planetary units. Whilst this makes manoeuvring the unit into place quite cumbersome, it does have one major advantage. On the spin cycles I have run so far, even at it’s maximum 1200RPM, the machine is surprisingly vibration free. Living in an apartment block, this is a big consideration for me and I’m sure it's welcomed by some of my neighbours. Initial set up and installation was a breeze, only requiring a simple hand-tightened cold water connection, along side a standard waste pipe insert. The accompanying laminated quick start guide was very useful, detailing the simple steps to get up and running. Unfortunately, it was only after pushing the machine into place in my utility closet that the quick start guide pointed me towards the 4 transportation security bolts secured in the back. So, time to haul out the planet-weighing thing again to remove the bolts… Not ideal, but serves me right for not RTFM… (I’m a man, what did you expect?) There’s a wide selection of wash programmes available from the rotary selection wheel, and each of these programmes can be tailored to suit a specific need, such as length of dry time, spin speed and wash temperature. The LED display relays the customised settings with nice and clear symbols and numbers that reflect the selections being made. The most useful display being the countdown timer. My old machine relied on guesswork as to when it will finish, but this beauty clearly tells you how many minutes until your cycle is done. I was impressed with the quality of wash too. Even on an eco-20º wash cycle, it completed the load leaving the clothes fresh smelling and clean. I was most impressed, however, with the dry cycle. My old machine would leave a tumble dried load with a slight “metallic” smell, but this machine left none of that. It’s a powerful dryer too - noticeably more efficient and quicker than my old machine. Other features I like include the wide opening portal, which has a satisfying “clunk” when closed - this leaves a feeling of quality and sturdiness. The 24hr delay timer comes in very handy when wanting to run a dry cycle at night (I’m on an Economy-7 tariff, making drying significantly cheaper) and the automatic half-load detection. I have only one complaint about this machine. And it’s quite an alarming one as well. I ran an empty 15 minute rinse cycle to clean out the drum prior to use. No problems there. So I went ahead with the first proper load. After 20 minutes or so, I could smell a strong “burning plastic” smell coming from the utility cupboard. Alarmed by this, I immediately paused the wash programme and left it for a while. The smell eventually subsided enough for me to be confident enough to continue the cycle, whilst watching it like a hawk. At the end of the cycle, I was pleased to find a nicely finished wash, and that the clothes hadn't attracted the smell of the fumes. This incident appears to have been a one-off, and hasn’t happened again since. Maybe it was burning off some manufacturing grease or something similar inside the washer, I just don’t know. Overall, this is a really pleasing machine. It has plenty of features, is more economical than my old machine, and has a really sleek look. If only I didn’t think it was on fire the first time I used it…

Pros: Ease to use, Looks good, Value for money

Overall, a smart and stylish machine with great time saving features.

The first thing I thought when I saw the Electra WD1275F4B washer dryer is that it is a really modern and stylish looking machine, that would suit the more modern kitchens. It has a large 7kg wash capacity load, which is great for larger families. I can fit a week's worth of outfit's for one person easily in the drum. With 15 different programmes, there is a setting for any type of washing. Personal favourites of mine include the 'allergy safe' programme and the 'curtains' programme. The 15 minute quick wash is also great for freshening up clothing which isn't too dirty. I like that you can wash and dry a load with just one programme, so no need to turn the dryer on once the washing has finished - it can all be done with just one push of a button. The digital LCD display tells you exactly how many minutes are remaining on your wash/dry cycle, and you are able to personalise most programmes in terms of temperature, spin setting and drying level. This means you are able to tailor you wash or dry to your exact requirements which is fantastic. A child lock makes this a very safe machine to have around children as any parent knows how children love to turn the dials on appliances! My washing has been coming out very clean and smelling lovely - so this appliance is definitely doing it's job! However, I have noticed a few cons to this machine: 1. The black shiny surface means that the front of the machine shows up fingerprints very easily - but this is easy remedied with a quick wipe, so not a huge issue. 2. I found that I had to really study the manual to know what each programme entailed. It was not clear which programmes were wash only/dry only - even when I read the manual. 3. There was a strange burning smell when I first used the dryer function which was quite alarming. I have put this down to the machine being brand new, as it has not happened since. I suggest this should be advised in the manual if it is a usual occurrence. Overall, this is a great machine and has a lot of features which you would expect from a more expensive machine. It is reasonably priced and offers good value for money, and offers a stylish yet practical addition to any household.

Pros: Good build quality, Looks good, Quiet, Value for money Cons: Complicated
