Powerful extraction. At 60cm wide the ZHC6234X will fit perfectly with a hob or cooker of the same width. It has an extraction rate of 515m³/hr which is best suited to a big kitchen – 17m² in fact. There are 3 speeds to choose from, so you can alter the venting speed depending on what you’re cooking. It’s really easy to do as well; there are 3 push buttons at the front to change the speed instantly. The metal grease filter is much more durable than plastic ones and it’s removable for easy cleaning.
Cooker hoods are designed to remove steam and odours from your kitchen by pulling in air and cleaning it. The extraction rate determines how quickly this can be done. This model has three extraction speeds to choose from, so it’s great for clearing the air in your kitchen quickly. Select the lowest setting when you’re simmering or steaming food and the highest setting for frying and strong-smelling food.
Suitable for 60cm hobs
When you’re looking for a cooker hood to suit your kitchen space, you want to make sure that it’s the right size. This model would look fantastic above a 60cm wide hob and would be able to remove the amount of steam generated by a hob of this size – making it ideal for a standard-sized kitchen.
With a noise level of 71db, this cooker hood is on the louder side of the decibel scale. This model is more suitable for larger kitchen spaces. If you want something a little quieter, take a look at models ranging from 45db to 66db.
Extraction and recirculation
When it comes to extracting air, you can choose to vent it externally or recycle air back into your kitchen. If you can connect a ventilation hose to an external wall, the cooker hood will draw air in and push it outside. If your kitchen layout doesn’t allow for this, charcoal filters will remove unwanted odours and smoke, before releasing the clean air back into your kitchen. This means your kitchen will always be nice and refreshed – whatever layout you have.
Low extraction rate
The amount of air that can be removed from your kitchen in an hour depends on how powerful the extraction rate of your cooker hood is. This model has a low extraction rate, which means it’s ideal for clearing steam, smoke and cooking smells from a small area.
The extraction unit itself is quite robust and has a handy top/centre picture hanging type bracket for a central screw. Useful for temporary fixing while installing, so you can centre and level the unit, mark the real fixing holes, remove from wall, drill the wall, and final fix the unit. Great so far.
The instructions are more of a 'hint' than a step by step, so if you are new to these, take your time and think it through before you start! Needs to be 50cm above electric hobs, and 65cm above gas hobs - important! You should have a 3amp fused spur sited approx halfway up the chimney for electrical connection.
Once you figure out how to fix it, it is not difficult, other than drilling out the wall for the external extraction (always better than recycling the air) which is moderately dangerous so get a pro in if you don't have experience.
If the instructions, and particularly, the line drawings, made immediate sense, it would be so much easier. The vertical cover up to the ceiling was also fiddly, the bracket to hold the top has tiny self tap screws but it does work fine.
After installing, it looks the business, and works well, but the instructions, if this is the first one you have installed, are pretty silly, and the 300 languages (just kidding) mean the english pages are limited to just a few.
Use gloves - all the edges you handle when fitting are potential skin slicers.
Nice end result, but the journey to get there, not so nice - Zanussi, try harder please!

Good value Hood
I could not fit an angled type of hood so selected this one which is reasonably priced and looks OK like most of the hoods of this type. The highest fan speed is a bit noisy but otherwise seems to work well.

Good looking product
This was my first venture in buying and fitting a "new style" cooker hood. The hood itself was a breeze to screw on to the wall but the stainless steel shroud covering the (not supplied) flexi pipe was a nightmare.
Instead of supplying a standard posidrive screw to hold it together they have supplied six cornered torx screws that need an adapter. The hole that you're supposed to screw this into ends up about 2 cm from the ceiling so the screw keeps on falling off the adapter - many choice words later I ended up drilling an extra hole further down the shroud. At the end of the day it's just bad design.
It says in the instruction manual you can get a washable carbon filter - you can't - I tried the Electrolux shop and there's only the disposable filter (costing about £15) available.
Having said that when I eventually got it fitted to my satisfaction the hood looks great and works well.
