With the summer holidays now coming to an end for most of us parents, it’s time to take a deep breath and congratulate ourselves on another holiday managed.

But while the challenge of 6 weeks of childcare arrangements, holiday wrangling and child-entertaining are done for another year, the annual back-to-school challenge has just begun.

Unless you’re one of the small number of parents who keep their children away from technology, there are a number of great Smartphone apps which you might want to try, to help with some of those educational milestones. After all, long gone are there days where the only apps worth using on a phone were the games.

Far from it in fact. You can find plenty of great apps to help your child now that they’re back at school – apps that help with maths, reading, science, exams, pretty much anything in fact.

Here’s a selection of 5 of my personal favourites, which cater for children in Key Stages 1 and 2. Obviously there are hundreds of great apps to help with older children too, but given my boys are 5 and 8, I’ve not really spent any time on them – so I’ll stick to the apps that mine have tried, for now…

So there’s 5 of my favourites, all of which you can easily sample of most of the major smartphone app stores. If I’ve missed one of your favourites, let me know in the comments below!
