    Gas hob buying guide

Find out the top 5 things you need to know when you’re looking for a new gas hob with this helpful buying guide.

With easy to control, fast heat, it’s no wonder that gas hobs are the most popular hobs in the UK. We’ll look at what size you’ll need for your kitchen and take a look at all the important features, so you can find the perfect gas hob for your needs.

    Number of burners

More burners means more room to cook. We've got a range of sizes, starting with a handful of compact 2 burner hobs right up to larger 6 burner models. 4 burner models are the most common and they give you the flexibility to cook pans of different sizes at the same time. With a 5 burner, you’re likely to have a large wok burner in the middle – ideal for busy households or if you love a big homemade stir-fry.

    Size and dimensions

The most important dimension to consider when you're shopping for a new gas hob is the width:

    • 55-60cm - 60cm is the standard width for hobs and should fit into most kitchens
    • 60-70cm - slightly larger than standard but will still fit into a 60cm width space
    • 70-90cm - loads of cooking space, but you'll have to check that a hob this size will fit the area in your kitchen

    Cooking on gas

A gas flame is great if you want instant, powerful heat that's quick and simple to control. Different burner sizes provide efficient heat for different sized pans. So, if you need to go from boiling to simmering in seconds, choose gas.

Gas hobs aren’t the easiest things to clean in the kitchen. The burners often need spills and splatters wiping down. The smoother the surface, the easier it will be to clean. Then there are the pan supports to tackle separately. Enamel is a good option for easy cleaning. Cast-iron supports are a little tougher to spruce up but they are a really sturdy base for your pans. Our gas on glass hobs are not only stylish, they also clean up relatively easily.

All gas hobs are fitted with a flame failure safety device. This means that as soon as the flame goes out, the gas supply will automatically be cut off, giving you complete peace of mind.
