    Hob Measurement Guide

    How to measure

Got your eye on that fancy new hob? You’ll need to know if it’ll fit in your kitchen first. We’ve put together some handy tips that’ll help you make sure you get that perfect fit.

    Planning your new hob space

When measuring up for your new hob, there are a few things you’ll need to consider.

    • First is the width. While most hobs will have a standard depth of 50cm and a height of 5cm, the width can vary between 60-90cm. So, you’ll need to choose a hob with a width that’s appropriate for where you’ll be placing it.
    • Secondly, you’ll need to make sure there’s enough clearance between the top of your hob and the bottom of your cooker hood. This is known as the hot zone and should be 65cm for electric models and 75cm for gas hobs.
    • Don’t forget to make sure the hob you like is either the same size as, or smaller than your cooker hood. No one likes cooking in a cloud of smoke.
    • If you want to place a gas hob above your oven, then you’ll need a gap of 2.5cm between them for air to circulate.
    • If you want your hob on top of your drawers, then bear in mind that the top drawer may need to be false to allow enough clearance.
