Much like computers and laptops, DVD and Blu-ray players run on software that needs to be kept up to date. With the arrival of new technologies like HDR, it’s always good to ensure your player keeps up so you can enjoy more of the good stuff.
Some DVD and Blu-ray players allow you to connect to the internet, whether that’s wirelessly hooking up to your home Wi-Fi or through an Ethernet cable. If your player is already online, it should let you know when it needs updating. If not, refer to your product manual to help you get connected and the player should then check for the latest software. You can also scroll through your settings and look for an Update or Set-Up option and manually search for updates.
Don’t worry if you can’t access the internet directly from your player, you can still get the latest updates. You can find the most up to date software on the manufacturer’s website. If you’re not sure how to access this information, the product manual that came with your machine will point you in the right direction. Depending on your player’s compatibility, you can either copy the files to a disc or save to a USB stick. Follow the instructions for each method below:
The update process is different for each manufacturer and each model. If you’re having any problems, the manufacturers themselves are full of wisdom and will be able to help you out. If you need to get in touch with them, check out all their contact details here.
