Freestanding washing machine measurement guide

Check out our handy guide for everything you need to know about measuring up for a brand new freestanding washing machine.

Whether you’re getting an upgrade or buying a washing machine for your first home, you’ll need to make sure that it will fit in your kitchen or utility room. Washing machine dimensions can vary so you’ll need to check what space you have available. Our guide has everything you need to know about how to measure up for a brand new appliance.

Connecting your washing machine

The first thing you need to do when you’re measuring up for a new washing machine is work out where it’s going to live. If you’re replacing an old model, this is an easy job. But if you’re re-designing a kitchen, you’ll need to make sure there’s a water supply nearby your appliance and a plug socket within easy reach.

Washing machine sizes

Once you know where you want your washing machine to go, get the tape measure out and check the height, width and depth of the space. This will give you an idea of the kind of washing machine you can get. Washing machines have a standard height and width, since they’re designed to fit perfectly under a kitchen worktop. The main measurement you’ll need to take is the depth, as models with a larger capacity are slightly deeper than other washing machines. You’ll also need a few extra centimetres at the back for the pipes going in and out of the appliance. To make sure you find an appliance that will fit in your space, you can find all washing machine dimensions on the Key Information tab when browsing products on our website.
