Soundbar measurement guide

Here are a few things that you need to consider when you’re measuring up for a new soundbar.

Under TV or Wall Mounted?

The first thing to think about is where the soundbar is going to fit in your space. If you’re looking to fit your soundbar on a TV stand, then get the tape measure out and check the length of the stand to make sure that it will fit. You’ll also want to make sure that the soundbar doesn’t hang over the edge of the TV stand. Ideally, you’ll want to have enough space on either side of it.

If you’d rather mount the soundbar up on your wall, make sure that there is enough space for it. Also if your TV is mounted above a fireplace, make sure you can mount the soundbar a safe distance from any heat which could damage it.

Where it's going to go

No matter where you’re thinking of putting your new soundbar, make sure that it won’t interfere with your TV. Your soundbar shouldn’t be in the way of the bottom of your TV screen, as it could block the signal from your remote.

You should also be careful that wires are long enough to connect your soundbar to your TV. Some soundbars also come with Bluetooth, so you won’t have loads of wires cluttering up your TV stand. For more information on soundbar connections, check out our buying guide.

Ideal soundbar size

Soundbars come in a variety of sizes so there are a few things to check out before you make a choice. You need to measure the length of your TV, not the screen size because that is done diagonally. You don’t want one that’s too big or too small, your soundbar needs to be just right for your TV.

The ideal soundbar size is roughly ¾ the size of your TV. You can check out the dimensions when you’re looking at soundbars on our site. Just click on the product and scroll down to ‘Key Information’.
