Learn some simple tips and tricks with our handy guide.

If you’ve made the move to a Chromebook, we’ll help you get used to your new surroundings. We’ve got some handy keyboard shortcuts, all the info on its security features, how you can share apps with your family and more.

Chromebook tips and tricks

Your Chromebook’s keyboard might look a bit different to your old laptop. Change should be welcomed with open arms, though, so we’ll walk you through some handy little shortcuts:

  • Chromebooks have a search button where your Caps Lock usually is. Simply press this and type in what you’re looking for.
  • To turn Caps on and off, press Alt and the search button.
  • If you want to switch between different programs, swipe three fingers up or down the mousepad to see what you’re working on at the moment and click on the one you want.

These shortcuts are all pretty simple, but we’re just scratching the surface. Press Alt, Ctrl and ? to see a list of everything you can do. You’ll be an expert in no time.

Security and automatic updates

Chromebooks are super secure bits of tech. They have virus protection built-in, so you won’t have to worry about losing that important coursework or those precious family photos. They also update automatically, meaning your device will stay in tip top shape.

The Google Play Store

You’ve also got the entire Google Play Store at your fingertips, so there are loads you can do with your Chromebook. Whether you’re a movie maniac, budding bookworm, gaming guru or working wizard, there’s something for everyone.

There’s a handy feature called Family Library, which lets you share any games, films, TV shows and books you’ve bought with the whole gang. Just go to Account, then over to Family. Hit Sign up for Family Library and you’ll be sharing the fun in no time.
