So you’re a proud owner of an Xbox One and you’re on your way to enjoying countless adventures, with high-adrenaline thrills and breath-taking vistas. There’s just a few simple things you need to do to get going. Read our guide on how to set up your new Xbox One, so you can get gaming sooner.
The first thing to do is find the right place for your Xbox One to live. Your console needs plenty of room to keep it from overheating, and it should be laid flat on an even surface. Once you’ve found the perfect home for your Xbox One, you’ll need to connect the wires. You’ll get an HDMI cable and a power cord included in the box. The HDMI cable connects to your TV, while the power cord goes into a plug socket. You’ll also find an Xbox One Wireless Controller with 2 AA batteries, so put them in and turn it on by pressing the Xbox button at the top.
Next, your Xbox One needs to know some details about you to deliver a more personal experience. You’ll be asked for things like your preferred language, location and time zone. This is so you can access all the features an Xbox One has to offer, like voice recognition and online stores. You’ll also be asked to download an update for your console. Make sure you do this straightaway so everything is running at its best when you use it for the first time.
Once everything is downloaded and you’ve filled in your details, the final step is to sign in to your Xbox One. If you already have a Microsoft or Xbox account, you can use this to log in but if not, use your email address and think of a strong password. When you log in for the first time, you’re automatically given a Gamertag, which is something that other players will recognise you by when you’re online. If you’ve already got the perfect name in mind, you can easily change it in your profile settings at account.xbox.com. You can only have one Gamertag, so make sure it’s a good one!
