We all know we should drink water. More water. Because most of us probably don’t drink enough, myself included. I’m the first one to admit that I find it difficult to drink the recommended eight glasses a day. Of course we’re lucky to have it literally on tap, but water can often be uninspiring. Then there are times when I simply forget.
What I need is to make my water more interesting and I have just the thing: bubbles and flavours! Now, I’m not somebody who would ever advocate sweet, fizzy drinks. However, if there’s a way to add a bit of fizz and flavour that in turn will make me drink more water, then I’m all for it.
So, I tried out the SodaStream. In fact, I tried out two of them, the SodaStream Power and the SodaStream Play. The SodaStream Power has just been launched and is a sleek looking appliance with LED lights and an aluminium and black design that looks quite the treat even in my tiny kitchen. It has three levels of fizziness ranging from a light sparkle to intense bubbles, so you can adjust it to suit your tastes.
The SodaStream Play on the other hand is smaller and a fun bright red. It’s quick and simple to use and has the snap-lock mechanism which locks the carbonating bottle into the bottle rest in a simple single-push motion.
Anyway, bubbles alone aren’t enough, so my water also needs some added flavours. No artificial flavours though, I want to keep it as natural as possible and have therefore opted for various fruit, herb and even vegetable combinations. There are no exact measurements really, only rough guidelines. You can adjust the amount of fruit according to your own taste. As for the herbs, bruise them lightly before adding them to the water so that they release their flavours. Also, after adding the ingredients, you should put the mix into the fridge and leave to rest for at least an hour so that the flavours have time to develop.
