Summer time means party time. Celebrations with friends and family, fun dinners and informal gatherings under blue skies. Some simple and fresh food, chilled wine, music and laughter. While some parties really don’t require place cards, other times it can be nice to show that we have put thought and effort into an event. Inspired by a recent celebration in the very artistic South of France, I have come up with some “arty” place cards which are perfect for this time of the year.

The whole table setting was very simple, but the addition of some flowers and the canvas place cards made it pretty enough for a relaxed celebration.

I hope you like this idea and might want to add some of these to your table.  Consider getting the little ones involved by letting them paint their own canvases – it might be a bit of a messy affair but surely that’s part of the fun!

Here’s a little tutorial for creating the ones you see here at my own informal party.

here's what you'll need...

  • Paint brushes
  • Water

here's how it's done...

  • 1

Mix up some paint with water. The mixture should be of a “foamy” consistency and quite runny. Load up your paintbrush with paint.

Lay out a canvas onto the newspaper and using the paint-loaded brush flick paint onto the canvas. You could try to concentrate more paint around the edges but it’s not an absolute necessity. Repeat the same “paint-splatting-process” with as many different colours as you want.

Leave the paints to dry. Due to the high water content, it will take a little longer, so you might want to have a coffee! Once the paints are dry, draw the names onto the canvases with a pencil.

When you’re happy with the writing, follow the letters with the permanent marker.

Now all you need to do is decide who to invite, lay the table and enjoy the party!

One response to “Craft Time: Mini Art Canvas Place Cards with Easel Holders”

  1. Absolutely stunning! Such an easy and creative way to create original place cards! Seriously, Carole, could you be any more creative? I’ve never seen these mini canvases before, but now I’m determined to hunt them down, to give this project a try! Thanks for another wonderful inspiration!
