Christmas is upon us so why not get crafty with the kids and make a Christmas Elf?  Felix decided he wanted to make a decoration to add to the Christmas tree this year, so we grabbed some bits and bobs and ended up with a couple of cute little peg dolly elves.

here's what you'll need...

  • Pipe cleaner

here's how it's done...

  • 1

Paint the dolly peg’s face and legs, then put to one side to dry.

  • 2

While it drys cut a circle with a small slit in the centre (just enough for the elf’s head to fit through).

  • 3

As well as a triangle (with one edge long enough to fit around the elf’s head).

Once the paint is dry, cover the elf’s body with PVA glue and attach the pipe cleaner arms (we added buttons for hands) and coat.

Stick the hat on and glue and twist up to the point of the hat. Here’s where the strong glue comes in handy, as it’s fiddly to hold together until the PVA dries. Adults will need to do this part, if using the strong glue.

Let your little crafter’s imagination run wild with designing the rest of the outfit. Use fabric scraps, pompoms, tinsel…anything from their craft box. The possibilities are endless.

    instrution7

They live on our Christmas tree now, and Felix plays with them with his little sister Minnie.  Have you ever made your own tree decorations?
