    Great Product

This is the review of the Sage By Heston Blumenthal Multi Cooker BRC600UK in Silver. First impressions are the unit is sturdy with non-slip feet and some sensible features, such as the removable power cord. Perfect for removing and taking the whole cooker to the table with the handles which keep cool in use. The glass lid with a steam hole helps keep an eye on the food whilst it cooks as lifting the lid will extend the cooking time. The steaming basket fits well in the cooking bowl but the wire handle seems to stop the lid from closing fully, perhaps this is just mine. It also comes with a rice spoon and measuring cup which is not a standard cup measurement but specific to the cooker. Keep this in mind when cooking rice. The cooking bowl is easy to remove and clean. I would recommend a plastic ladle so as not to scratch the non-stick. A simple safety button under the bowl stops the unit being operated without it being in place. The instruction book is a easy to follow but I would have liked to see more recipes as there are only a few. The accompanying website does not have many either. Hopefully, because this is a new product it will expand over time. Cooking features include risotto, sauté/sear, rice/steam, high and low slow cook and are selectable with the buttons along the front, the start/stop button is also on the panel. Each button lights when powered on and turns red to denote the selected function. When cooking meat in a slow cooker it is important to brown it first as it helps with both flavour and texture. Being able to sauté directly in the cooking bowl and not a separate frying pan makes much less washing up! When a cooking programme completes the unit will automatically drop into the "keep warm" mode which is a very useful feature. We have only used it a few times to make a risotto and also a couple of curries. The risotto was different to the when I make one on the hob but was ok. With a little more practice it will be perfect. The curries worked really well, the slow cooking brings out all the flavours of the herbs and spices and allows you to use the cheaper cuts of meat. I haven't tried the cooker as a steamer yet but I have no doubt they will turn out fine. Would I recommend this product to someone? Yes, I think I would. Because it is a multi cooker it’s not going to be just another single use gadget sat in the cupboard.
