How do I do a spin only program? New AEG LFR61844B today

    4/5
I bought this machine for its price and simplicity of use. I have bought AEG machines for 30 years. But I can't puzzle out how to do spin only. I like to give an extra spin to my half load washes. Can anyone help please.

    Probably my worst ever purchase

    1/5
My old AEG washing m/c gave me 10 years and 3 months of faultless service, so naturally its replacement was the AEG LFR61844B Big mistake, it's advertised a 8Kg load and 1400 rpm BUT only two programmes achieve that: 1. Eco 40-60 (AEG couldn't explain the 60) and it runs for 3 hours and 25 minutes, who wants their m/c running all that time? My cheaper afternoon electricity only lasts 3 hours. 2. Cottons, the only one worth using for everything, reduce the temperature to suit modern washing powders, select 'Time Save' for 3 or 4 kg loads and hope the 1400 rpm will dry the clothes. * The m/c's worst problem is, should it pick up an unbalanced load for spinning, it does not stop once or more until the load balance is OK like the old m/c, it just ploughs on, banging and crashing so badly it walks the m/c out from under the work surface, risking tearing off supply and waste pipes. * I've now bought 5 rubber wedges fitted under the front AND I stay close by when it's running. I also suspect the claimed 1400 rpm, clothes are not as dry as the old m/c achieved.

I chose this washing machine to replace my previous AEG, which I’d had for 12 years, and overall would award it 9/10. This model is less than 60cm deep so fits under our worktop without protruding into the kitchen. Although the detergent drawer and door handle felt a little flimsy, I like that the LED display and control buttons have words rather than just symbols making it easier for my partner to use. As well as the standard settings for synthetics and delicates, there are more unusual ones for denims, duvets and outdoor clothing. Both the spin speed and the duration of the wash cycle can be reduced and there is a handy 20-minute quick wash as well as an extra rinse option. Even at a reduced spin speed the clothes seem to be drier at the end of the cycle than with my older model. The machine’s ProSense technology weighs the washing and will automatically reduce the length of the cycle for smaller loads, which has already saved me time and money. However, this is advertised as an 8kg machine so I was surprised to find that this is only the case when washing cottons. For all other programmes the recommended maximum capacity is 3kg, even for synthetics, and the LED display will warn you if you have exceeded 3kg. Overweight loads can still be washed but the manual states that “in this case, it will not be possible to guarantee the best washing results.” Probably all washing machines have these same limitations and it’s certainly an eyeopener to find that I may have been overloading my machine for years without realising it.

    A very good machine

    5/5
I am really pleased with my new machine! My previous machine had started to leak and I was unable to use it again. I live in a flat and the risk of a leak doesn't just concern me it concerns all the neighbours below me, so I need to be careful! The machine looks great, it works very quietly- I was suprized at how quiet! I was able to turn of the "I'M FINISSSSHHHED!" type alarms that just about every machine has (I usually use machines overnight to reduce energy bills as I'm on an economy 7 meter and don't want to be woken by alarms!) I've tried a few different washes and they all do a great job. I'm next planning on a wool wash, and have no doubt it will be just as reliable! The things I'm especially pleased with: -The volume of washes I can choose from! I like that I can wash everything from my woollen items to a hygiene wash (will be great for towels!) I like that I can also use an eco wash and the descriptions given for what each wash is, is also helpful. -I like that although I have the instruction booklet, I don't need to read it in full. it's a fairly self explanatory machine. -I like that it is so quiet! I used to worry about the noise from my previous machine upsetting neighbours at 3 or 4am (when I wash), but this runs so quietly I don't worry now. -I really like the speeds this takes to wash anything, far faster than previously and I've no doubt will be using less energy as a result. Unlike previous machines I've had; this one allows different weights per wash. Some allow 3kg, some 4kg...etc. You're always told on the digital display in the top right hand corner what the weight maximum per that wash is (they're not all the same). If you try to put in a greater weight than is allowed, the machine will attempt to start...and then pause, beep at you and the weight will be flashing or appear as a dash to indicate this is where the issue is. It's really useful- although I'd like it better if I was able to wash more per some washes! I suppose the reason must be that with too high a volume, the items wont get cleaned as well and I'd rather have cleaned washing than a ticked box on my to-do list! Another thing I found- almost by accident, when washing something else I could see the spin and touched the spin- literally touched the screen- and the spin number changed! I was really impressed with this! I can alter the spin on say a wool wash if I am worried it's too high- this is really useful and not so obvious on setting up The only downside to my order was a really poor set from AO who despite my booking the experienced plumber service refused to fix my old machine after taking the old one out saying it needed a new part and I would have to book a new plumber. That set me back another £100 and I was told it was a very easy job and the part I be was a bog standard every plumber carries around but wasn’t essential. Altogether AO partly refunded part of the fee for installation it wasn’t all and it didn’t come anywhere near what I had to pay out additionally. I called AO and I did complain and got a “sorry” but nothing in the way of compensation or real apology. I’d advise this machine but maybe no the service they claim to offer! I say this after being poorly let down last time I tried AO. The products yes, but don’t waste your time on the “service “!

    Brilliant replacement

A brilliant easy to use replacement for an old AEG even better than expected no need for higher tech models.

    Generally happy

    3/5
The clothes come out wetter after a spin than my previous Miele, but I couldn’t buy another Miele as they have changed the dimensions and the new machines don’t fit inside my cupboard. Also the detergent drawer of the AEG doesn’t come out very far beyond the cupboard shelf compared to the Miele so its hard to get the detergent in. Otherwise happy with the machine so far although there seem to be fewer options than I’m used to but probably due it being a less expensive make.

    Comprehensive range of features

    4/5
Full range of functions including quick wash and you can increase the temperature. To save drying costs I like to do an extra spin only at the end of the cycle, the push button function to select this mode is quite difficult to press in. The pull out soap dispenser drawer is much easy to pull out and replace for cleaning than the previous model.

    Brilliant!

Washing machine is quiet even when spinning at 1400rpm. Good selection of programmes with ability to change temperature, speed of spin and time. Could not ask for better!
