Easy to install and brilliant quality.

Great bar with lots of features

    4/5
Bought LG SL8YG for my partner to compliment LG GX OLED we got few weeks prior. She was adamant we do not need it, as apparently the sound from TV is 'amazing'. To me, someone who enjoys decent hi-fi, it sounded thin, leathargic and borderline headache inducing. After short research I settled on this, based on its features: Atmos support with upward speakers, WiFi Chromecast support, Bluetooth. Chromecast on a sounbar is very rare at this price point and comes handy if I want to cast Tidal, to play some nursery rhymes for little one. Let's be fair, don't expect great music from this thing as it was not designed for that purpose... average potato with two speakers will sound better. I can't compare it to other soundbars but with quality content from Disney or Netflix it sounds impressive. Soundstage is narrow and Atmos is limited without back speakers but it adds tons of excitement to the experience. Initial connection was a blast, hdmi arc to TV, power cables to mains and bar automatically synced with subwoofer via Bluetooth. LG TV detected it and enabled volume control via TV's remote. It took me much longer than it should with WiFi connection thought, as apparently it requires two apps to be installed. Google home and lg speaker. It's not particularly straightforward but judging by reviews of LG speaker app in play store, I was quite lucky. One thing to notice is Bluetooth connection: it's NOT available without bar being connected to WiFi. Considering issues many people reported, this may leave you without any options to stream music from mobile devices. Also, I noticed individual adjustment of center speaker, sub etc stopped working on the remote once the LG app was installed. Now, I need my tablet to adjust these, which luckily it is not very often. You probably want the app anyway as there are some settings which are not accessible via remote. Overall, I have to deduct one star for these few glitches and only 1 year warranty which isn't very reassuring. To sum up, I would have to draw face of my partner when I mentioned sending it back due to WiFi issues. Suffice to say, I wouldn't stand a chance in this battle, she is completely in love with this thing.
