    Repalcment Miele

    3/5
This was a replacement for an existing Miele machine that was over 20 years old. To be honest a bit disappointed with the new machine as a lot has changed in 20 years and some of these changes seem like a downgrade in quality and the new machine will no way last the same amount of time. Firstly there is a lot more plastic everywhere and the door is now plastic and the door lock is electronically controlled. A lot of program options use the touchscreen in addition to the dial and no touchscreen will last that long. Miele’s own warranty is now only 2 years. The machine itself is now bigger than before and the drum protrudes in a pointed heart like shape at the bottom where pipes use to run on the old machines, therefore meaning it sticks out a lot more if fitted under a standard 60cm worktop. The 1.5m drainage hose has also been moved to the top of the machine which means if you want to install to an outlet to the right of the machine then you may need an extension to the hoses. Miele wanted £50 to extend the hose as it was a little short. The machine is fairly heavy in weight and has a very low clearance underneath, as the base is solid and close to the ground, meaning it kept bottoming out when trying to install into a narrow gap. Once installed it is fairly solid providing the floor is reasonably level. From a performance aspect it has a variety of programs and an option to shorten the length of these so a typical standard wash can be done in about 90 minutes (15 minutes waiting for door release). It also has a quick wash of 20 minutes (plus door release wait). The door lock can be overridden and unlocked by ending the program by turning the dial to off. The spin cycles are moderately loud but the noise from the drainage pump when emptying is very loud and fairly bad and resonates throughout the whole house. Clothes also seem to be damper at the end of a cycle than they were with the old machine. The machine’s door is hinged on the right and Miele are the only manufacturer that have this set-up. If you’ve never owned a Miele before then you probably would find it an acceptable upgrade as compared to some of the other manufacturers. If you’re already a Miele owner then you might want to consider one of other models but they are a lot more expensive.

What a racket this thing makes, the only reason I bought it was for how quite it was. Even had the repair guy out. Its slightly better. Wish I'd bought another hotpoint. Waste of money.

    Hope it lasts

    3/5
There is nothing really outstandingly good or bad about it ... it washes laundry and it comes out clean. I paid the premium in the hope that it would last as the place where I need to put it is in an awkward location otherwise I would've got something cheaper. However, there are some things to point out. Although the wash cycles are quiet, when it comes to draining the water away, the pump is pretty loud. The spanner to remove the transit bolts is lodged in the polystyrene packaging and not placed inside the drum so don't let the delivery guys take it away without them giving it to you if you opted for AO to take the packaging away. The bolts themselves are long (around 57.5cms) so give yourself enough space behind to pull them out if your were to place the machine near it's final position. To prevent voiding the warranty, you must use Miele accessories which includes the hose. The supplied one is around 1.5m and is already screwed into the washing machine end so you only need to connect up one end. You have to register the washing machine to activate the 2 year warranty. The drain hose is long so my setup means it has to go down the machine (as it starts on the top of the machine) and loop back up before entering into the drain pipe. The deliver guys said the washing machine is heavier than other manufacturers. As with other modern machines it uses less water but takes longer to wash. My 25 year old Zanussi used more water but took less time to wash which I preferred as you could see the laundry sloshing in suds and gave me assurance that it was doing a good clean. There is however a quick wash option on the Miele that takes 20mins to complete.

1st Miele, hoping it lasts as long as they say!

This is my first Miele. Bought because I'm fed up of having to replace other brands every 2 years (& I've had 4 different brands!). The Miele is meant to last 20 years-I live in hope! It's REALLY heavy, the delivery guys said the heaviest washing machine there is-hope this is a sign of a good quality build machine. I managed to walk it in to the space under my Kitchen unit bit by bit, but if you're elderly/struggle with your mobility you may need someone to help. You need to run this washer empty before use to calibrate-instructions are in the manual so do read it!! It talks about min/max water pressure & unless you're a plumber who knows what pressure their water is coming out at! I don't! It comes with a REALLY long drain hose, so you can't make sure it's straight. You have to use their hose which is pressure protected otherwise the warranty would be void. The drum is big for 7KG's-it makes me think other washing machine's I've had haven't been what they stated they were! The main wash programs on all washing machines are ridiculously long these days-they say eco friendly on water, however they are now far more consuming of electricity as the programs are twice as long as they used to be! Hardly eco friendly! And I don't believe they wash as effectively anymore with such little water. The good thing about this machine is you can opt for soak & extra rinse. You can also opt for a short wash on a main wash program which cuts the time in half to about 1hr 15 on the cotton cycle, which is what I choose every time when doing a main wash & sometimes add an extra rinse. There's also a quick wash program which is 20 mins, handy if you've only worn something for an hour or two & it needs a freshen up. Like most washing machines, all the other wash options/cycles I will never use! You can pause the wash & add an item you've missed once it's started which is handy. I don't like the fact the main select panel for temp/spin speed/extra rinse/pause etc is touch screen-I worry this will wear out far quicker than an all dial function. The wash cycle is quieter than all the other machines I've had, but the spin is as noisy. The draining of the water before the spin seems to take a lot longer than other washing machines, but the clothes do seem a bit dryer after the spin so this may be why. There's always a pool of water left in the seal after a wash has ended, I've checked the washer is level. I've contacted them about this & they said it will drain through the small holes in the rubber seal, but it doesn't, I have to soak it up with a dry cloth, no big drama unless you didn't see it & it would start to stagnate/smell. I've only given 3 stars because the main reason I paid extra & bought a Miele is for it's longevity & as I've only had it a month I can not score it on this yet. However going off others reviews from people who have come back to buy a 2nd Miele, it does seem they are built to last, so I'm hoping I can score them higher in the future if it does last a very long time.

    Vibration Issues.

The washing machine itself looks great, but kept jumping about even though everything levelled; my floor was the issue. Good if you have a concrete or solid floor.

The washing machine washes perfectly, is very quiet - including when spinning. Unfortunately I thought I was ordering a "hot and cold fill". I am disapointed that they no longer seem to be made.

This was a replacement for a 20 year old Miele washing machine that had only needed one service visit. Looks good, although plastic front as opposed to the old metal. Noisier too but I’m hoping for the same reliability.
