Huawei P20 Pro

More than pleased with this phone, it does everything that I want a smart phone to do, the main reason I bought this was my last phone stopped working properly after an upgrade and the manufacturer was not interested in sorting the problem out, also I wanted a good camera the camera on this phone is first class , will be sticking with Huawei in the future

Undoubtedly the best phone I have ever owned.

Having had the latest Samsung and Apple phones over the past 10 years, I decided it was time for a change. The P20 Pro was available for pre-order with a set of Bose QC35 headphones thrown in for free, so ~ a no brainer. I won't go into the individual specifications of the phone as these are readily available on other websites. This review is based purely on my using it for the past two months. It really is awesome. The face recognition and fingerprint identification are both lightening fast. The speed of opening and using apps, eaually as fast. The two outstanding aspects of the phone are the camera and battery life. You would need to really have to.use power hungry apps to be able to run the battery down in any one day. The quality of photographs is amazing. Absolutely pin sharp and you're able to use a comprehensive set of preprogrammed settings. Either way the results are fabulous. I was expecting big things from the P20 Pro when I ordered it ~ and I wasn't disappointed. Highly recommended.

A real cameraphone with AI

I received this product as part of a review program in return for an unbiased review The home button is very much present on the front bottom, for those who like this style for tactile control. It also has the fingerprint scanner, which is where I prefer it to be, than at the back of the phone. Other phones may have ditched the home button so as to dedicate the front, to the screen, but Huawei did it a very effective way, that doesn't take much screen space, by using a very slim button. Other interface features on note are the screen recording, which allows one to record all screen interactions, and the split screen, which allows two applications to be run on seperate screens simultaneously. This seems to be a standard feature for most Huawei phones now The battery on the Pro 20 is a decent size 4000mAH, which for me has been able to keep the juices flowing for almost 2 days after every full charge. This was despite my intensive use of the camera as i was testing various modes and scenarios during the same period. Couple this with the quick-charge feature, you realise that you have soon forget about the yersteryear wores of cellphone charging, especially if one is making use of portable power banks. Now, this phone is all about the camera, so my camera highlights deserve to be mentioned here. The phone has got 3 cameras which work together to provide appropriate lighting, depth, focus and color performance. More detail on how this is achieved can be found on Huawei’s website, but the more critical ingredient in this recipe is the Artificial Intelligence (AI) processing. Indeed the power of AI on this phone is evident through the camera. The camera is able to detect objects and adjust the camera mode and settings according. One good example which i noticed immediately was how colors were enhanced whenever I was capturing photons of food at restaurants (one of my fav hobbies) In my experience the AI has been able to provide the touted “Point and shoot perfection” in Huawei’s speak. This phone comes with an InfraRed (IR) blaster. This means that you can be able to control about any IR device like TVs, Radios, Set-top boxes etc. I have used an app called SURE Universal Remote on Android for over 5 years and it works perfect on this phone. It would be blasphemous to claim that Huawei has come up with the holy grail of a phone. The P20 Pro has its shortcomings, but like all things, those may actually be someone’s meat. Mine came with 128GB internal storage and that cannot be extended because there is no microSD card slot. For me, that capacity, plus my cloud storage facilities, means the storage is much more than what I need. Secondly, the 4K video capturing is not stabilised, so if one want to do some serious 4K videos, they may want serious gear like gimbals for a smoother output. However, for most personal video requirements, the full HD 1080p is adequate. Lastly, there is no headphone jack, so if like me you were still using those wired earphones, you are out of luck. Fortunately for me i had bluetooth earphones as well, which i had not been using, but turned out they are actually better quality than the one i had been using. Only thing i hate it having to charge the earphones everyday

Pros: Camera, Screen size, Battery life Cons: No MicroSD slot

Absolutely Wow

I received this product as part of a review program in return for an unbiased review Having only ever used the same Android make of smartphone, I was a bit wary about changing brands, but I need not have worried. Straight out of the box the Huawei P20 Pro felt comfortable to look at and hold. It came supplied with a case and a screen protector and although there is no headphone socket, there is a supplied adaptor to connect the included earphones to the charging terminal. Instructions are minimal but the entire 151page manual can be downloaded online. Getting started was easy. Importing contacts from my previous phone was very fast via Bluetooth and connecting to Wifi was seamless. Navigation was simple and not too different from my old device and I soon had it feeling and looking like my old friend, but oh so much faster and responsive. The keypad was slightly smaller than what I was used to and I kept hitting the wrong keys, but with a few tweaks in the settings, I managed to overcome this problem. The speakers are excellent and phone calls are very clear. I have not tested the earphones as I can’t use in ear ones. The quality of the display and video is outstanding as is the quality of photographs. The camera is a joy to use and is extremely simple for someone who knows very little about the different settings. I may dig deeper into this later, but at the moment I am just happy to point and shoot and get excellent photos and videos, it even takes photos in the dark! There are some interesting tools like slow motion and panorama, but testing these will come with confidence. Security is excellent with both fingerprint and facial recognition unlocking, both of which are extremely easy to set up. Battery life is outstanding and charging is very fast. There is absolutely nothing I dislike about this phone and based on my experience , so far, I would highly recommend it.

Pros: Camera, Battery , Very Fast Cons: No SD Card slot, No removable battery

The smartphone of the future is here.

I received this product as part of a review program in return for an unbiased review. After using this phone as my main handset for the past 3 weeks I must say I'm as fascinated by it now as I was in the first day. The battery is a great ally. So far I didn't manage to drain it all in a single day even though I used the camera a lot. Speaking of the camera, marvellous! AI, 92 MP, 5x Hybrid Zoom, low light photography, Leica.. need I say more? The front camera is great at photos but so far can't do film in 4K. Fingers crossed for a patch. The Hybrid Zoom is a thing of the future when it comes to phones. With 3x Optical, 5x Hybrid and up to 10x Digital, the phone became my all time favourite. The phone is just as fast now as the moment I took it out of its box. It comes with 128GB storage. Started using a cloud service that deletes the pictures as soon as they are uploaded and now I have over 80GB free, so no issues there but still would have loved a microSD card slot too. I was afraid at start that I will not be able to use my favourite, but in the box you receive an adaptor from the Type C port to a 3.5 Jack so problem solved! Gave the digital headphones that come with the phone a try but they haven't won me over. The AMOLED screen is ridiculously vivid and I love it. The phone is compact. For a 6.1" screen the phone is quite small. I like the notch and use it but the phone does have a feature that allows you to hide it. I, 100% recommend the phone.

A real cameraphone with AI

I received this product as part of a review program in return for an unbiased review The P20 Pro is a smartphone which is supposed to be in the category of so called phablets, if we are to go by the screen size. I say "supposed" because the moment you get hold of this phone, you will realise how its profile is deceptive. The screen is "Yuuuuge" at 6.1 inches, whilst the phone weighs only 180 grams and is 7.8mm thin. Moreso, the phone fits snuggly into one's' hand allowing one hand operation without any problem, thanks to the reduced width of only 73.9mm. The key feature here is the edge-to-edge screen, which monopolises the phone's real estate. You will probably instantly notice the "top notch" (pun or no pun, you decide). The notch can be turned off if one doesn't fancy it. The home button is very much present on the front bottom, for those who like this style for tactile control. It also has the fingerprint scanner, which is where I prefer it to be, than at the back of the phone. Other phones may have ditched the home button so as to dedicate the front, to the screen, but Huawei did it a very effective way, that doesn't take much screen space, by using a very slim button.
