Good iron for money, but there are some annoying features.

Iron is a bit flimsy but does seem to be put together ok. Only negative is the big steam button under the handle which as you need to grip handle to iron you keep pressing steam button which is a bit annoying also dial very flimsy.my last iron cost me £70 so I suppose you get what you pay for.

Pros: Ease to use, Value for money Cons: Poor quality

Glides beautifully through the ironing

The first thing that is obviously noticeable about the Tefal Ultraglide FV4040 2400 Watt iron is that it is extremely lightweight. My old iron was so much heavier. The Tefal Ultraglide only weighs 1.5kg. The instructions are pretty clear. Even without them, it’s fairly easy to work out how to use it, after all, it is an iron! There are, however, some distinguishing features the Tefal Ultraglide has that my previous iron did not have. For example, an anti-limescale collector, which is dipped into the water tank and prevents build up of limescale on the sole plate. Since this iron is brand new and I’ve only just had it, I am unable to comment on this feature. To clean the collector, you just open the water tank cover and pull out the collector near the steam control and place it in white vinegar or lemon juice for four hours to remove any build up of limescale. You then rinse off under the tap and reinsert it back in place. There’s also a self-cleaning function too, so there are two features in this iron to prevent the build up of limescale. The water tank’s capacity is 0.3 litres, so quite big. When I first took the iron out of the box, I was a bit disappointed that it did not come with its own jug, which my previous iron did. However, when you flip open the plastic flap over the filling hole, you can see that it is quite big, so it is easy to fill it using a water bottle. The water tank is also translucent, so you can see how full it is. The steam function can be turned on or off. You can also either use the steam function or if the item being ironed needs to be dampened, a spray function. Or if you don’t want to use either you can switch it off. When you fill the water tank, an orange light comes on. This is the temperature indicator light. Once it goes off, it means that the water is hot enough to start ironing. The setting switch for the different types of fabrics is under the handle, which I find a tad cumbersome and would prefer it to be on top of the handle. However, this might just take a bit of getting use to. When you set the temperature of the iron, ie cotton, silk etc, this also adjusts the steam accordingly. Another good feature about the iron is the safety feature. If you leave the iron on unattended for eight minutes when it is on its heel, it will automatically switch off. Similarly, if you leave it down on its side or with its soleplate facing down, it will switch itself off after 30 seconds. It has a very large heel, which made it very stable, so I didn’t have to worry so much about it knocking it off the ironing board. The cable is also very long, it’s 3m, which is handy. The heel is designed so you can easily loop the cable around it when you have finished ironing, which is convenient for storage purposes. Now onto the purpose of the iron itself – the ironing! According to the literature that I found on the iron, the Tefal Ultraglide FV4040G0 features ‘the Tefal Ultraglide Diffusion soleplate which features enhanced glideability thanks to its very smooth surface which helps reduce resistance when ironing’. I was a bit sceptical at first, as in my mind I thought an iron was an iron. How wrong I was, it really did glide over cotton shirts much more easily. There was no need to go back and forth to iron out creases, it seemed to do so in one or two attempts. One feature that I have not tried yet is that you can iron vertically, eg curtains that are hanging, as there is a vertical steam function. In short, I am very pleased with the Tefal Ultraglide FV4040 2400 Watt Iron. It seems to have made my housework a lot easier by making the ironing quicker. I have already recommended it to my friends and family.

Pros: Ease to use, Looks good, Value for money

A very good Iron!

This is a very good Iron, which is very easy to use, and does exactly what it should! In the box is the Iron and paperwork. Nothing else! The box holds it sturdily, and no damage ensued from delivery. The Iron features an anti limescale device that dips into the water tank (and incorporates the steam setting), and is supposed to keep the limescale away from the iron baseplate. I haven't used it enough for limescale to build up, but the Anti-Limescale device is removable for de-scaling. The water tank is very large, and very easy to see the water level inside, as the plastic is translucent. The fill hole is kept underneath a sprung flap, which is a bit flimsy, and needs unclipping squarely to avoid potential damage. The hole to fill is quite large, and is easy to do with a normal jug. You do have to fill the iron quite slowly though, otherwise the water overwhelms the internal passage and overflows briefly. Once filled and turned on though, it heats up very quickly. There are two lights on the iron, one on the handle which shows the iron is on, and one underneath the handle that lights up when heating. The steam can be turned on or off. When on, the flow is controlled by the iron temperature setting, so on the low setting there is no steam, on the cotton/high setting, lots of steam! Underneath the handle is a trigger that releases a VERY powerful burst of steam, enough to briefly almost lift the iron up off the board. However, too much steam and it starts to condense somewhere and drip out of the baseplate. The base of the iron is very broad, and holds the device very steady when placed down. It also forms the cord holder, which is further helped by a clip fitted to the cord, so it holds itself together when wrapped up. The iron has a built in safety feature, which cuts the heat if it's left on the baseplate for 30 seconds (not tried this though), and cuts the iron out if it's laid on it's side (knocked off the ironing board) for 30 seconds (this works well!) In terms of actual ironing, it is very nice to use! It glides easily over the clothes, and irons them with one or two passes, the powerful steam helping here. It does go through water quite fast, but the volume of steam it produces is in line with this. One minor grump is the end isn't as pointed and narrow as our last iron, making ironing up to folds slightly different, but it still does it well, and will be something I will get used to in time I expect. The flex is very long, which is nice. Overall, for the price, this is a very good Iron. It does it's job very well. The build quality is slightly creaky, but it seems well screwed together. Recommended!

Pros: Ease to use, Long Cable, Looks good, Value for money Cons: Middling Quality, Slightly Clunky

Tefal iron

I absolutely love this iron but the down side is the steam button under the handle. This is too big and you constantly press it when holding the iron a smaller button would have been better. The steam function is fabulous and easy to fill up. I have given it 4 stars as the design is not great.

Pros: Ease to use, Steam function is great Cons: The handle design.
