Nicely designedd product but too clever.

This is a nicely designed product. Unlike its predecessor the water level in the iron is clearly visible. However the lack of temperature control is a serious shortcoming. The assertion that it will iron any cloth on the fixed setting is a fallacy. For some fabrics the iron is not hot enough. Irritating and disappointing.

Pros: Quiet, Good build quality, Looks good Cons: Complicated

tefal iron

wanted to go for tefal because ive had a lot of irons in my time and the only ones I remember lasting and giving good service were tefal. Looks like ive got another good one.

Pros: Ease to use, Good build quality Cons: None

Fantastic Iron

Was uncertain at first but am converted. It produces masses of steam and my husband CAN'T set the temperature too high! Two small niggles: 1st the water tank needs refilling quite frequently and 2nd would like a slightly longer cord.

Pros: Ease to use, Looks good, Quiet, Value for money Cons: Frequent refilling of water tank

No more burnt clothes!

Tefal Smart Protect FV4970 2500 Watt Iron This iron is a real revelation for anybody who has ever burnt their clothes owing to getting the wrong setting. The clue is in the name - the reason it is called ‘Smart Protect’ is because it protects your clothes. The clothes can’t get burnt because the iron automatically detects the heat it needs to be at in order to iron each garment. The iron with no settings  I’m used to turning on an iron and trying to work out what heat to use on a particular garment. I have no idea how the Smart Protect does it, but it somehow manages to work out what temperature a garment needs to be ironed at without any help from the user.  To get the iron working, you just need to make sure it is unplugged and fill the reservoir with water. The only settings you need to choose are normal or eco mode, and with or without steam. There is a turbo steam function to add extra steam to your normal ironing. You can also use this to iron clothes vertically whilst they are on a hanger.  There is a safety feature that turns off the iron after it has been unused for a certain period of time. If it is upright, it switches off after eight minutes. If it is lying flat or on its side, it will turn off after five minutes. For information on keeping the iron in perfect condition, there is a section in the manual about keeping it clean. The verdict This iron is incredibly effective and easy to use. I haven’t had any problem with it being too hot and sticking to clothing. With or without the steam function, it is effective and does the job with a minimal amount of fuss. I like the fact it has an eco-mode, which uses 20% less energy than the normal mode. And best of all I like the fact that I will never spend money on replacing burnt clothes again!

Pros: doesn't burn clothes, Ease to use, Looks good, No need to choose temperature setting, Quiet Cons: None

Ironing made EASY!

Not too many people get excited about Ironing, Understandably. It’s a necessary evil, so anything that speeds up the process and makes it easier has to be welcomed. This is where the TEFAL FV 4970 comes into its own. Previously we have always had cheapo supermarket irons. After all, surely an iron is an iron!. It has a flat, heated base and a handle that smothers out wrinkles in clothes etc. With this Tefal iron our eyes were well and truly opened. Not all irons are created equal. One thing that I forgot to mention in my video review was the only real negative we found. The cable could have been longer. Apart from that let me tell you a bit about the TEFAL FV 4970, and our positive experience with it Firstly, this iron is part of new smart technology. It automatically allows you to safely iron all materials. Unlike most irons you do not need to adjust settings according to what is being ironed. The need for adjustments meant no fiddly settings controls on the iron, so it looks neater and more modern. No adjustments necessary between clothes means that an ironing pile was done quicker as you just go from one item to the next straight away. It’s a plug and play. We plugged it in, waited for it to heat up, and the light indicator to turn off, and away we went. The first couple of times we ironed with it we were a bit hesitant and worried, but you soon gain confidence in its ability not to need adjusting, and not to burn clothes. The iron seems to be a bit larger than normal but it sits nicely in the hand, and with a ceramic plate it glides easily over clothes. It also has a good integral stand that sits solidly on the ironing board. When left switched on it, but unused, it automatically switched itself off after a few minutes as a safety precaution. We started using the iron again and it automatically awoke and was ready to continue. For ironing, rather than just heat, it uses steam more to proceed, so accordingly it has a larger than norm water reservoir. This is accessed by flipping a lid in the handle and the aperture is suitably large to fill it quickly. There is also the opportunity to switch the iron to eco mode, which the company claims saves 20% energy. On trying this mode we didn’t find any loss in ironing capability so we stuck with this. The company also claim its technology and the steam helps fight calc build-up, but we haven’t yet had the iron in use long enough to see if this claim is true. To conclude, ironing isn’t the most fun activity, but this iron did surprisingly make the process quicker and easier. It’s performance on the clothes was excellent, it was simplistic to use and as such we do have no hesitation recommending it. As I mentioned in the video it would be hard to go back to a more traditional iron.

Pros: Ease to use, Good build quality, Looks good, Quiet, Value for money
