    Tips for measuring up

As a freestanding cooker, this model can easily be fitted into an appropriate space between your kitchen countertops. Cookers usually come in three widths – 50cm, 55cm or 60cm – so just measure the space you have to find one that’ll fit. Also check the depth, as you’ll need to allow for gas pipes and electrical sockets around the back of the appliance.

    Lovely cooker

So far so good. This is my first electric cooker in my 50 plus years! Always had gas, but fancied a change when my gas oven broke. I've done a couple of roasts, & baking & am loving this cooker. Wish I'd gone over to electric years ago. This model is easy to use & clean. Only thing is, I still keep going to press the ignition button from years of gas!

    Perfect choice - perfect cooker.

I needed a new cooker for an impending house move whereas the new property came without a built in cooker. So for the first time in over 20 years I could choose the one I wanted. So after whittling down the vast array on offer, settled on this Hotpoint Ultima with double oven and ceramic hob. I prefer the double oven as many times you want to cook two things in the oven and both require different temperatures. When I moved house and unwrapped it, I felt like a kid on Xmas Day - so excited !! It looked great, I wanted black as white can look cheap, and after trying it out a few times, can confirm it was a perfect choice. Hob works quickly, easy to wipe clean when cooled down, the fan oven is oh so quiet, and the grill is very efficient. Only thing now is that I don't want to get it dirty.... But definatly 100% happy with this cooker. The perfect choice.

Looks nice but personally I'm disappointed

When researching for the purchase of a new cooker, I was really surprised that although the vast majority of reviews for the HUE61KS were 5 stars, there were some reviewers who absolutely hated it. How can that be I thought. Well, I now understand. Because of my own experience, I have only given it 3 stars, the reasons for which, I hope to explain below. My main reason for this rating is that it is so completely different from my previous Hotpoint Cooker, which was 14 years old before being replaced by this. I’m assuming the bad reviews are written by people experiencing similar issues to me. This cooker is very slow by comparison to my old Hotpoint cooker. The main oven is probably at least 15 degrees cooler than my old oven. I always suspected that my old ovens were inaccurate and I think this new one has confirmed it. However it’s a total new learning curve, with everything seeming to take far longer to cook. I now use 200 degrees most of the time in the main oven, whose fan switches off from time to time, thereby completely negating the main point of a fan oven i.e. fast and even cooking. It all takes a long time. Probably the worst thing about this cooker though is the hob. I think my old one was radiant heat, like this one but the temperature was controlled by the entire element controlling the temperature. With this one, parts of the element just switch off leaving other bits seeming to be just as hot, so it can’t possibly spread heat evenly. The other strange thing about the hob is that positions 1 and 2 are virtually useless, as they have as much heat generated as a match. However, there is one good thing about that, as you can really simmer at an incredibly low heat. For instance, I put a cast iron casserole dish with about 2” of chilli in it to reheat on position 1 on a zone and left it. 40 minutes later it was hot enough to eat and my casserole dish was unmarked. Cleaning the casserole was therefore a ‘doddle’. This I thought was good, provided you had the time to spare. To end this review, I think if you are used to ‘modern’ energy saving features on a cooker, you will take to this cooker immediately. If you are not used to them, you’ll have a steep learning curve and just be prepared to start cooking earlier than normal. I’m prepared to accept that perhaps modern cookers are all the same and if that is the case, my 3 star rating is probably a bit harsh but if I were starting again, I would put a lot more effort into research before buying.
