Masticating juicer

This Panasonic juicer uses a masticating action to extract liquid from fruits and vegetables. Your ingredients are slowly squeezed by the stainless steel screw – separating the liquid from the pulp whilst preventing any nutrients becoming damaged by friction heat. Leafy greens and berries are easier to juice using a masticating juicer, so you can create delicious, healthy drinks effortlessly.

Fresh or frozen attachment

Supplied with a handy frozen attachment, this juicer gives you the option to work with either fresh or frozen ingredients. Simply switch attachments and within seconds you’ll be able to create a delicious range of ice cold smoothies, sorbets and frozen desserts.

Easy clean

All the components of this Panasonic juicer are easy to change and remove. This is great when it comes to cleaning – simply pop the dishwasher safe parts in with your load, or rinse under a tap. This means your juicer will be as good as new, and ready to create your next delicious drink in no time.

Juice with no bits and more nutrients!

When we recieved this product I loved the look of the product and how sleek it was in design, it's so simple to you and comes with everything to make both juices and frozen items with a simple change in components. The juicer is slotted together and so simple to use you just pop the fruit in, push down and out comes the juice- even my four year old can do it! The juice came out sweet and with no bits! The fact it's a slow juicer means you get more juice and not a load of rubbish out of the fruit. It's easy to clean and comes with a tool to assist in cleaning. An absolutely fantastic product and we would give it 5 out of 5! I just can't wait to make the frozen treats out of it too!

Panasonic MJ-L500 Slow Juicer review

This is a review of the Panasonic MJ-L500 slow press juicer. This is a slow juicer, which means rather than using a high speed extraction method which can generate heat and can affect the flavour, consistency and vitamin content of the juice, it uses a slow rotation and high pressure screw to squeeze the juice out of the fruit which according to Panasonic creates a higher quality and more nutritional juice. The unit seems very well made, it is quite heavy, and has a relatively small footprint, however it does stand taller than high speed juicers. I’m guessing this is due to the extra torque required of the motor (which is 150 watt) in order to slowly press the fruits down into the extraction mesh. This is a multi-function unit, not only does it press fruits and vegetables to extract the juice, but it also has a frozen fruit function with which to make sorbets from fresh frozen fruit. I’ll mention a little more about that later. The main unit comprises of 10 parts. The motor housing, The juicing bowl The juice extraction mesh Extraction mesh support with rubber paddles The extraction screw which is very strong and heavy The lid and fruit pusher The juice collector The pulp collector Frozen sorbet crusher Also included is a cleaning tool and obviously the manual The unit is fairly easy to assemble with arrows on each part in order to assist you in lining them up correctly. The hardest part to put in is the extraction screw as there is no arrow on this due to the fact that it needs to fit onto the motor below so you kind of need to pop it in, press it down and rotate it until it drops onto the motor, but after a few uses this was easy enough to do. In use the unit does make noise but it is not too intrusive or annoying and is necessary due to the operation of the motor. The power switch has 3 modes, ON, OFF and REVERSE. Revers can be used if any troublesome fruit flesh becomes stuck however I have never needed to use it yet. The unit is slower to extract juice than a normal high speed juicer but it’s not too slow. I haven’t really used a juicer before but I was surprised how little juice you actually get, although saying that the pulp that comes out is definitely squeezed as much as it can be so that must just be fruit in general and not an issue with this particular machine. You do have to peel certain fruit and veg especially those with thick skins such as oranges, however apples etc don’t need to be peeled. Basically if you can eat the skin then it should be fine in most cases however you do need to chop the fruit up before putting them in the juicer so some preparation work is necessary. The juice that is produced is very tasty, I suppose this depends on the freshness of the fruit you use. It did leave quite a bit of froth on the top which was off putting for my kids but if I removed that first they were happy to try the juice and liked most of them, however things like oranges did still have some ‘bits’ in them which I don’t mind but my kids didn’t so if serving to kids you may need to strain the juice first. With the frozen attachment again some preparation work is required. Before freezing your fruits, you need to prepare them as if you were juicing them normally, in other words peel and chop them up. Then you need to freeze them but not too much. If you freeze them solid they can damage the machine so you must either take them out of the freezer at the right time, or take them out and let them soften slightly before adding to the juicer. The manual says so that a fork can penetrate to the centre. I must say though this was my kids favourite. They loved the frozen sorbet style fruit and were disappointed when I told them we had to wait for more to freeze first. You can also use your frozen fruits crushed into cocktails and iced drinks. Cleaning the unit is fairly easy, just disassemble it and simply rinse it out. The cleaning tool can be used for stubborn pulp and you can use normal washing detergent if you need to and most of the unit is dishwasher safe, but not all so check the manual first. The pulp extraction tube was the hardest part to clean until I found a rubber plug that you can remove to allow easy access on the underside. All in all I am happy with this juicer although I cannot comment on its claims of superior vitamins and goodness in the juice but they do taste really good. There is some preparation time needed, more so than for high speed juicers I believe but if the claims of superior quality are true then it is worth spending the time.
