Suppliers ownership of problems and duty of responsibility to its customers

I Had a FLYMO 330 hover mower delivered which had a damaged/ cracked plastic fan, the problem was only discovered after assembling it and about to do the final bit of installing the spacers to adjust the cutting height. However, if you try to return an item to AO, strangely, damage to the item is not one of the designated reasons for returning an item to AO. Instead, you are directed to contact the manufacturer as quote “I am sure you will agree, they know their items best”!
The item I received had been re-sealed in its box and I suspect the previous recipient had simply chosen one of the approved reasons for return to save themselves the hassle, and the problem was then passed on to me by AO. I am now awaiting a response from FLYMO, who apologise for slow timescales due to Covid?!
Update, Its now four days after reporting the issue to the manufacturer as AO directed and no response.
