Security on your PlayStation 4

A step-by-step guide to parental controls and security on PlayStation 4.

Here are some of the most helpful things you can do to make sure your family stays safe when playing games online.

How to add child family members

Children aged 12 and under can’t create their own account, but you can do this for them. Follow these steps to add a new member to your gaming family:

  • Sign-in to your account and head over to Settings
  • Select Parental Controls/Family Management then Family Management
  • Go to Add Family Member, then Create User
  • Enter your child’s information and accept the User Agreement that appears on the next screen.

All set! Now you can limit the age level for games, Blu-rays and DVDs and set how much they can use the internet or PlayStation VR.

How to set up spending limits on PS4

If you prefer to buy your games online, you can set spending limits so you can keep in control of your finances:

  • Head back over to Family Management in the Settings menu
  • Select the user you want to set a limit for and go to Applications/Devices/Network Features underneath Parental Controls
  • Go to Monthly Spending Limit and hit the X button.

All set! Now you can keep a closer eye on your finances and there won’t be any shocks on your bank statements.

How to manage a user's Play Time

Play Time management puts a cap on how long each of your kids can spend on the PlayStation:

  • You guessed it – go back to Family Management in the Settings menu and select the account you want to set controls for
  • Set your time zone and pick Play Time Settings.
  • Here you can set an overall play time, a range of playable hours or a curfew to stop them playing after a certain time. Remember to select Save to apply the changes!

All set! Now you can stop worrying about the kids getting square eyes.
