It sounds obvious, but a fridge freezer is split into a fridge and a freezer. What isn't obvious however, is that the actual split can vary from 50/50 to 70/30 one. To see what's best for your kitchen, check out our guide.

Fridge freezers for thought

When it comes to fridge freezers, you can go for a freestanding or a built-in model. Freestanding fridge freezers can be moved anywhere while built-in fridge freezers need to be housed in a kitchen cabinet. Both options come with different split types, so think about which will be best for your home. 50/50 models are 50% fridge, 50% freezer, so you get the same space in both cabinets. But if you buy lots of fresh food, you might want to look for 70/30 or 60/40 models that’ll give you a slightly smaller freezer to maximise fridge room. You might also want to look at energy ratings to find out how much each fridge freezer costs to run. The A to G ratings on our product pages will give you an idea, but if you want even more detailed information, check out the Youreko tool. It’ll let you put in your tariff info and will work out how much it will cost on average to run each model. A-rated models are the most efficient, while G will use more energy.

A fridge freezer for every budget

Know how much you want to spend on a new fridge freezer? There’s an option to suit everyone. Beko, Candy, and Fridgemaster offer great value for money with appliances that cover the basics and will keep your food fresh. Bosch and Haier have stylish mid-range models which give you some great tech without breaking the bank. But if you want an all-singing, all-dancing model, check out LG’s range, including the MoodUp™ series that play music and light up with millions of colours – as well as giving you tons of fresh features like InstaView™ and ThinQ™. And Samsung fridge freezers are packed with clever tech that’s sure to impress. From SmartThings™ connecting to your phone to SpaceMax™ Technology making it bigger on the inside.

Take good care of your new fridge freezer

Once you’ve got your shiny new appliance, you want to look after it. Make sure there’s room around it for ventilation too – we recommend around 5cm on both sides and behind. If you’ve not gone for a frost free or no frost model, make sure to regularly defrost the freezer. That’ll keep things running smoothly and take better care of your food too. Regularly check the coils, cleaning when necessary to keep everything ticking over nicely. Another handy tip is making sure your food has room around it for air to circulate, so the motor isn’t overworked – again, it’s better for your fridge and your food.
