Good, but with a major flaw
4/5
This is the second LG washing machine we have owned. The first lasted us 12 years and we quite liked it.
This new machine replaces a Hoover H Wash 500 which lasted barely four years by comparison.
The LG machines are on a totally different level quality and design-wise and completely justify the extra cost, which is why we went back to the brand. Everything this machine does is better, from giving cleaner laundry (white socks come out nearer white), running more quietly, and a dryer result after the spin cycle.
All good but with one flaw, which our previous LG machine suffered from as well. The LG machines don't like to spin if the load has settled slightly unevenly, which is frustrating. The load slowly rotates while the machine tries to sort it out, before an aborted attempt at spinning. It does this a dozen or so times over what seems like an age before it eventually gives up with an error code. The instructions say to take the laundry out and re-arrange if this happens, which doesn't work whenever we've tried it. The only way to get it to spin in this situation is to remove some items (usually the lightweight bulky ones, like the daughter's school coat). I'm surprised after at least 16 years of the direct drive design that LG still hasn't managed to improve this. Otherwise an excellent machine.
