Samsung 55-inch QN90D Review: A Stellar TV for Picture and Sound
5/5
The Samsung 55-inch QN90D is an impressive TV that strikes a great balance between stunning visuals, solid audio performance, and sleek design. Here’s my take on why it’s an excellent choice for many, with some minor points to consider.
Picture Quality
The QN90D features Samsung’s Neo QLED technology, which delivers brilliant picture quality with vivid colors, deep blacks, and exceptional brightness. Whether watching in a bright room or during nighttime, the screen performs well, thanks to its excellent contrast and local dimming. The 4K resolution, combined with Quantum Dot technology, ensures vibrant, lifelike visuals that make every scene pop. Fast-moving content like sports or action movies is handled smoothly, with minimal blur, thanks to the high refresh rate and motion smoothing.
Sound Quality
For built-in TV speakers, the sound on the QN90D is surprisingly strong. It offers clear dialogue and well-rounded audio without the need for an external soundbar, especially in smaller or mid-sized rooms. The Object Tracking Sound feature provides a more immersive audio experience, making it feel as if the sound is coming directly from the action on the screen. However, for audiophiles or those seeking a cinema-like experience, pairing it with a dedicated sound system might still be worth considering.
Design and Fit
One of the highlights for me is how perfectly this 55-inch model fits into the space. It has a sleek, modern design with ultra-thin bezels that add a premium feel to any room. Its compact profile allows it to sit nicely on a stand or be wall-mounted without dominating the space, which is perfect for those who need a big-screen experience without overwhelming the room. The cable management system helps keep things tidy, which adds to its overall clean aesthetic.
Smart Features
Samsung’s Tizen operating system runs smoothly and offers a wide range of apps and streaming options, including Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and more. It’s user-friendly, with a responsive interface that’s easy to navigate. Voice control is available through Bixby, Alexa, or Google Assistant, which adds convenience, but the voice assistants aren’t always perfect in understanding complex commands.
Gaming Performance
For gamers, this TV shines as well. With its HDMI 2.1 support, low input lag, and variable refresh rate (VRR) technology, the QN90D is a fantastic choice for next-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Gaming on this TV feels fluid and responsive, with little to no lag, making it a great pick for competitive or casual gaming.
Areas for Improvement
While the QN90D excels in most areas, there are a few things to keep in mind:
Viewing Angles: Like most VA panel-based TVs, the viewing angles could be better. If you’re watching from the side, the colors might lose some vibrancy and brightness. That said, it’s less of an issue if you’re sitting directly in front of the screen.
