Great TV but you can't record any channels
3/5
I recently upgraded to this TV from a Sony model that had ghosting on the screen. I have several Samsung products and another TV from Samsung in the bedroom, so I was confident that this would be a good choice. The next-day delivery was free, and as always, the AO drivers were great.
Setting up the TV was easy, and the picture quality and sound are fantastic. The interface is a bit of a pain, but you do get used to it. However, I was disappointed to find out that I couldn't record onto a USB stick or an HDD drive like I could with our previous Sony TV, even though there's a dedicated USB port for recording. It's not possible to even view shows past 1 day. Normally, you can browse the guide and schedule any program up to 7 days in advance, but for some unknown reason, Samsung hasn't allowed this. While I understand that many people now use streaming services, there are still times when you might want to record a program to watch later.
It seems like the only solution is to buy a separate set-top box to save recordings to. This wasn't what I wanted at all, and if I had known about this limitation before purchasing, I would have been willing to spend a bit more for a TV with built-in recording capabilities. It's frustrating that the product description doesn't mention the inability to save live channels to an external drive; it only states that you can read from it. I expected better from such a big brand.
