    By now the indulgences of Christmas are a distant memory. But if you’re anything like me, the toll that all that all delicious festive food has taken on your waistline is still very much present. In a bid to banish those extra pounds and get my nutrition back on track, I’ve been starting my day with a smoothie, and the greener the better.

    My personal favourite includes kale and kiwi. It’s packed with green goodness, which is one of the best ways to start your day, especially if you are trying to shift a few pounds, as this vegetable based smoothie is very low in sugar. Another great thing about this drink is the kale. The list of health benefits that come with this leafy green is almost endless, so by reaching for this drink when you get out of bed in the morning, you know you’re doing your body a real favour. And it’s absolutely delicious too!

    Here's what you'll need...

    • 400ml cold water
    • 100g kale
    • 2 kiwi fruits, sliced
    • 4 sticks of celery, chopped
    • Juice of 2 limes

    Here's how it's done... Step 1

    Wash the kale and celery thoroughly in cold water. Chop the celery into bite-sized chunks and peel and slice your kiwi fruits.

    Pour the water into a liquidiser, before adding the celery, kiwi and kale. Now, whizz it all up – I normally use a medium setting to make sure the celery gets juiced properly, which takes just over a minute.

    Cut your lime in half and get as much juice from it as possible – this really transforms the drink. Turn the liquidiser off, add in the lime juice and blitz for a further 30 seconds before serving.
