    Makeover: Lisa Dawson's Bedroom

One of the two interiors bloggers behind social media project Revamp Restyle Reveal, Lisa Dawson shares her bedroom makeover with us.

When Interior blogger, writer and workshop presenter started planning the renovation of her Master Bedroom, she took inspiration from the decor at the Artist Residence Hotel in Pimlico:

“I absolutely love the impact of the artworks upon the white walls and the juxtaposition of vintage pieces with newer design.

I wanted it to feel luxurious, uncluttered and to really reflect my personality. I wanted it to be a mixture of old and new, with a little bit of an edge. I wanted it to feel bright and light, with unexpected features and to feel like a sanctuary when I walked in.”

Lisa’s stunning master suite is an amazing space. Originally three rooms, they’ve been re-planned to include a bedroom, two dressing rooms and a large en suite bathroom.

The house is Georgian and this room has incredible feature windows and an original fireplace. Lisa was keen to emphasize these:

“There are original cupboards either side of the fireplace in this room and I wanted them to stand out as a feature.”

The stunning bedroom transformation wasn’t challenge-free though:

“Painting was an issue as it’s a large room and the ceilings are huge. It took a couple of coats as the previous colour was a tan brown and it was seriously hard work!”

Lisa spent a lot of time planning the space before starting work:

“I pinned, a lot, on Pinterest! I took inspiration from some USA accounts I followed and planned out my moodboard carefully. I knew I wanted a huge rug underneath the bed so re-purposed one I already had in the living room – it fitted perfectly and hid the majority of the grey carpet which I wasn’t that keen on but was unable to replace at that time. I mixed vintage furniture that I sourced from the local community furniture warehouse with some well placed new products and was super happy with the result!”

One deal breaker for her, was finding a place to put the TV,” I’m a morning TV addict and cannot get up in the morning without it so this was very important”. In the end the perfect solution was to position it above the radiator, to the left of the window in an unobtrusive spot, but facing the bed, so ideal for watching.

Lisa’s wardrobe didn’t escape the renovation: “I also wallpapered my dressing room, including the wardrobe doors. This was a risk but I was so pleased I did it – it’s now a room decorated with cranes flying through pink clouds and I really love it.”

We asked Lisa for her top tips for anyone planning a bedroom makeover:

    1. “Plan ahead! Create an online mood board to consolidate your ideas. It makes life much easier.
    2. Clear the room in your head and work out what items you would like to include for your perfect space.
    3. Be ruthless – if you don’t love it or don’t need it, don’t include it! Start simple and add.
    4. Work out the bed position first and think outside of the box when it comes to placement.
    5. Your bedroom is a sanctuary – think carefully about the colours you use and make sure you incorporate plenty of layers and textures to keep it cosy.”
