Accept & closeIf your handheld vacuum has started sounding a bit tired, it might be crying out for a clean.
Giving your handheld vacuum a little TLC is surprisingly simple, and no, you don’t have to go full Monica Geller and vacuum your vacuum with a smaller vacuum.
Before you start, make sure your vacuum isn’t powered.
Corded? Unplug it.
Cordless? Pop the battery out. A tiny step, but a very important one
We’re sure everyone does this already but it’s worth repeating. Detach the dust bin and empty everything into a bin bag. Give it a gentle tap to shake loose any stubborn bits, you’ll be amazed what hides in the corners.
A quick rinse with warm, soapy water works wonders. Then let it dry:
Filters do the heavy lifting, so they deserve some attention.
For washable filters:
For nonwashable filters:
Most models come with a nozzle, so check this first for any blockages, then wipe it down with a damp cloth and let it air dry. If yours comes with a brush, pull out any loose bits, and use scissors to sort out any tightly wrapped strands.
A quick onceover with a microfiber cloth and mild soapy water keeps everything looking fresh. Dry with a soft towel or leave it to air dry.
Make sure every single part is completely dry before putting it back together. A damp filter or bin can cause motor damage — and nobody wants that.
Always check your vacuum’s manual for any brandspecific advice. A little regular maintenance goes a long way, helping your handheld stay powerful, clean, and ready for whatever crumbs, cobwebs, or chaos life throws at it.
