    Chainsaws Buying Guide

The 5 things you need to look out for when buying a chainsaw.

Chainsaws are powerful motorised gardening tools that use a small set of blades to cut through trees and large pieces of wood. If you’re struggling to find one that’s right for you, here’s everything you need to know.

What kind of chainsaws are there?

The chainsaw you buy depends on what you’ll be using it for. Cordless models give you the freedom of moving around the garden and they’re perfect for smaller jobs like chopping up firewood. Corded chainsaws plug into a wall socket and are a lot more powerful – great for embracing your inner lumberjack and tackling bigger projects. Plaid shirts not included, sorry.

Is the chainsaw bar length important?

The chainsaw bar is the part that cuts the wood, so larger bar lengths can cut larger logs. Our range starts at 20cm and goes up to 40cm, so choose a chainsaw that can easily handle any job.

    Is chain speed important?

If you’ve got a lot of chopping to be getting on with, you’ll want to take a look at the chain speed. Measured in metre per second (m/s), chain speed is how quick a chainsaw can cut through wood. You can probably guess that the higher the number, the faster the tool will be. Our chainsaws cover a wide range of speeds, going up to a rapid 12m/s.

    How heavy are chainsaws?

Chainsaws come in a variety of sizes and are packed with different features so they can vary in weight. We’ll always label how heavy each model is our Product Specification, so keep an eye out while you’re looking.

For safety reasons, it’s important to make sure you can easily control the tools you’re using. Otherwise, you’ll have to put that gym membership to good use and bulk up!

How can I stay safe when using a chainsaw?

Chainsaws are dangerous pieces of equipment, so you need to take the proper steps to operate one properly. Firstly, anyone under the age of 16 cannot use the tool, and anyone who does should be wearing a helmet and gloves.

Our range of chainsaws also have a host of safety features that help to prevent any accidents. Anti-vibration systems make them easier and more comfortable to use, chain catchers stops any chance of injury if the chain breaks and safety guards keep your hands safe from splinters and slipping.
