    Response Time

    What is response time?

Response time tells you how quickly a screen can react when images change. It’s measured in milliseconds, or ms, and the lower the number, the snappier everything feels on screen. A faster response time makes motion look smoother, which is handy when you're editing videos or jumping into games with lots of fast-paced action.

If your work involves lots of movement on screen, a response time of 5ms or less is a great choice. That’ll give you the responsiveness you need without any visual issues like blurring to distract you.

    Gamers

In gaming, every millisecond counts, so a response time of 5ms or less is a must. If you're after the fastest reactions possible, a screen closer to 1ms can give you the edge when the action gets intense.

    What is ghosting?

Ghosting is what happens when objects leave a blur or shadow behind them as they move across the screen. It happens when pixels can’t switch on and off quickly enough to keep up with rapid motion, so images look muddy.

Choosing a laptop with a lower response time helps stop that from happening. The quicker the screen can react, the clearer and more responsive the picture will be.

What is the difference between GTG and MPRT

When you're shopping for a new laptop, you'll probably spot a few different types of response times. The 2 most common ones are MPRT (motion picture response time) and GTG (grey to grey), and knowing the difference can make it easier to pick a display that's right for you.

    Motion picture response time (MPRT)

MPRT measures how long an image stays visible on the screen while an object is moving. The lower the MPRT rating, the clearer motion looks.

    Grey to grey (GTG)

GTG measures how quickly a pixel can switch from one shade of grey to another. A lower GTG rating means they can change faster, helping motion look smoother while reducing blur.
