Where’s the hot coffee, I want the have a relaxing drink!

    2/5
Really disappointed with the temperature of the coffee, I can’t normally drink hot drinks straight away, but this machine does not make hot coffee. If you want to site and relax over a long drink this machine is not for you. Do a search outside AO and you will see lots of comments on this and confusing info re the hot plate re 4 cups! Yes the machine looks great, but negatives, cable is short, filling with water is not that easy, the water level on the side is difficult to see. Some basics not designed out, too much focus on looking good rather than providing hot coffee. Returned unit for refund. Just as well AO priced matched, it’s really not worth the list price.

AO was fantastic SMEG not so much

I received this coffee machine today, and there was a little chip in the paint and the chrome was discoloured. Mohammed from AO customer service was fantastic, but I am less than impressed with the SMEG appliance. It seems to work well...but for £169 it should be pretty top of the line.

    Really nice coffee machine

Machine is great; only downside, it’s a shame that the keep warm function can’t be used if running the machine half capacity

    Great coffee maker!

I love Smeg products - the retro 1950s look is a big part of their appeal for me and they perform and are built to an amazingly high standard. Now why the 4 star do you ask? Well when you fill the jug it is actually impossible to get that last little drip of water out of the big and into the tank. It’s a dilemma. Do I leave a tiny bit of cold water in the jug? Can I flick it into the tank somehow? Or do I walk over to the sink and pour it away (go water the plants with it)? God damn you Smeg! You had one job! That minor quibble aside - it’s a great product.

    Good machine. Good coffee

Great machine. Simple to use as you would expect from smeg. Doesn't feel as sturdy as I would have expected it too and the face that the wire is not black to match the machine really annoys me. But the coffee tastes great and it looks cool on the counter!

Nice product, perhaps not worth the cost.

It makes good tasting coffee and does what it's supposed to, but I can't help feeling that even with the Smeg brand, it's not quite worth the overall cost. The design of the water tank is impractical as you can't pour in all of the water from the jug (because of the strict 90 degree angle at which the lid opens and the design of the jug). It's also unclear as to what the 4 cup function is for as you can simply fill the tank with 4 cups worth of water and at least that way the keep-warm hotplate turns on (which it otherwise wouldn't on 4-cup mode). I haven't noticed a difference between the two aroma modes either, but perhaps my palate isn't refined enough. I feel like the strongest aspect of this product is the aesthetics, which is pretty much the biggest reason I bought it, next to Smeg being reliable as a brand. I'm not sure that it's worth the price, but overall, I'm happy with the product.

Looks great but not always practical

    4/5
I really want to live this. And I mostly do. I’ve used it a lot in the week or two since reviving it (anyone else’s coffee consumption rocketed up since lockdown?!), and have made genuinely great tasting coffee (using Pact and Cafe Nero grinds). I love waking up on a weekend and smelling the fresh coffee. But I’ve found setting the timer for the “delay” function a bit tricky - kept going round in circles at one point with a loud “BEEP” every time I tried to set the time. Also, the water receptacle is hard to fill in my opinion - there’s quite a narrow space and can be a bit tricky. Finally... for some reason the “stay hot” function doesn’t work at the same time as the “half jug” function which I find a little annoying (this is stated in the instructions, not a defect in the product). Sometimes I’ll make a half jug just for myself and want it to stay warm for a while. So all in all I’m pleased but some nightly bits prevent me from giving 5 stars.
