Looks good but faulty after one use

    2/5
Good experience with ao. Oven looks good was very pleased with it, however after using the grill for the first time one of the elements stopped working after 10 minutes of use. The light bulb in the top oven also stopped working all after having the appliance fir just 48 hours. Am awaiting visit by the engineer to either repair or advise replacement.

    Damaged product

The oven was delivered complete with packaging, but on removing the packaging i found that both sides of the oven had large dents, after reporting this to AO i was offered the cost of the delivery charge as remuneration, this was accepted as we had no other alternative, i needed the oven as my own was not working.

We have replaced a Hotpoint built in double oven which has given stalworth service for 16 years. With another Hotpoint oven nigh on the same in appearance. The oven was installed fine, we let the two cavity's heat up initially to eradicate the newness smell. Next day went to properly use main oven the light would not come on, but oven worked. To change the bulb when oven cooled was the obvious answer. removed wire shelves but could not get a good purchase on the outer cover to the bulb.So as with my old oven was basically the same configuration decided to remove the door to ease access.Big mistake the arms on the hinge which are employed to hold the hinge in place while the door is removed from main body of the oven, would not budge. finally with some considerable force managed to dislodge and engage to allow the door to be removed.fixed the new bulb as the outer fitting was removed more easily with better access. The door was returned then the problem with getting it into the correct position to close was encountered, I feel the new oven has not got the same feel or quality in build as our previous oven and would not buy it again.

A few issues with this. Not a satisfactory oven.

Cannot fault the service from AO which was excellent but the oven itself is really disappointing and I have some concerns about it. The control panel gets too hot to touch when the oven is on - even the lower oven which is further from the panel. The minute timer is unreliable and fiddly - the instructions say to press the button ‘several times’ but I have had to press it up to 15 times before it works. It then disappears and the button has to be pressed again to set it. An absolute pain. I bought this oven based on good reviews and apparent value for money but I guess you get what you pay for.

Nice looking but not long lasting.

Within a week the top oven seal had come away. The customer service at hotpoint is very poor, in the end they sent me a new seal which I fitted myself. After 3 years everything started to break , first the knobs started to break then the oven light and then the ovens stopped working. Do yourself a favour go for a better brand.

    Some design faults

    2/5
1.The bottom oven door has a gap between the inner and outer pieces of glass so any drips from the top oven get trapped between them . 2.The shelves are too short-if pushed towards the back of the oven they tip over. 3, The timer is overly complicated-I still haven’t really worked it out. 4. The instruction booklet looks as if it’s been photocopied and is very generic with little specificity to the model actually purchased. Overall quite disappointed

    Timer problematic from day one

    2/5
Straightforward installation and reasonable operation. Operating the timer proved difficult from day one, the buttons unresponsive and controls not working as documented. I eventually determined that the timer was faulty as it refused to operate at all once the oven was hot. Even though it was reported as faulty within 28 days, Hotpoint want to send an engineer rather than replace it outright. AO were cheap, delivered on time and removed the old oven without a hitch. Hotpoint I will be avoiding in future.

    Cheap and nearly cheerful

Installed as said and fitted well in the unit. Powered up and fitted all internal shelves etc. Worst thing when turning main oven on was the noise from fan etc. Then I pushed the main door in and the noise decreased. So what does this mean? Am I loosing heat which will mean it will take longer to reach temp which means costing more to heat up? Not sure no. I know it’s a cheap appliance but if I’d known this I wouldn’t of bothered. Not sure if it’s too late to swap either as we’ve used it.
