Good but could be better
4/5
The first iron I received was faulty, I got through 1 pillow case and the low water indicator came on. No matter what I did I could not get rid of it. I followed all the suggestions in the troubleshooting section of the manual (left it for 3 hours in case it had been stored below 10 deg c during delivery, refilled the water tank with cold water, etc) and still nothing.
So after calling Tefal who told me I need to speak to AO, who told me I need to speed to Tefal, who told me I need to speed to AO, I spoke to a very helpful chap called James at AO who arranged a 3 way conversation for another troubleshooting session. After some reluctance from Tefal to admit there was anything wrong with the iron it was agreed to replace it. Full marks to AO for customer service, not so much for Tefal.
I have been using the replacement iron a few weeks now and I am impressed. The instructions say it will need 2 minutes when switching on to be ready but I find it’s ready in under a minute. There is no temperature control, the sole plate is at a constant relatively low temperature and the steam does the hard water. I can switch between wool to cotton bedding and back again no problem. I admit I haven’t tried it on anything delicate like silk or satin yet. The iron does struggle with heavier bedding.
I can get through a pile of ironing quicker now than with my old Tefal steam iron. One odd design omission is there is no storage for the power cable. Also the storage for the storage for the steam cord isn’t enough for the whole cord, it doesn’t look as neat as it does in the photos.
On the whole it is a good iron, though knowing what I know now maybe a bit over priced.
