Fantastic little waterproof speaker for outside and in!

    5/5
I absolutely love my new little speaker, it follows me around the house. Wherever I am I can have music and setting it up and attaching it via Bluetooth was simple! It also means that when the phone rings the music stops so I'm not shouting over the sound or having to rush over and turn it down. It's perfect for making my home working environment comfortable whilst also being able to blast out my favourite tracks when I'm relaxing in the garden. If you're considering getting one then don't hesitate! It's definitely worth it!

    Small but perfectly formed

First visual impressions of this little speaker are good, very solidly made with a reassuring weight to it. I feel confident it will survive the tough life a mobile speaker like this will most likely live. USB C charging is a very welcome feature as have lost so many devices to broken micro USB charging ports. Setup could not be simpler, if you have ever paired a Bluetooth device in the past you will be up and running in seconds. I downloaded the XBOOM app to my phone and initially thought it did nothing more than connect the speaker to my phone however when I looked again I found more options in relation to controls and settings. It was here I found software updates for the speaker, which I highly recommend you install and will explain why. When I first paired the speaker it was a pleasant enough sound, the bass was better than you would expect from such a small box and mids/highs are very clear however once I hit 75% of max volume the sound became distorted, more so when the sound boost was engaged. The software update fixed this issue. I can now go to full volume without too much distress on the sound quality. Battery life is sucked out when on high volume will sound boost on using 50% in two and a half hours. Anything under 30% max volume was inaudible from my Moto G7 plus and 40% of max volume is very low unless you are sitting right next to it in silence. In saying that with my 3 kids running about I could still hear the music over them with the speaker within two meters at 80% which is impressive in itself. As for sound quality, sadly I think size does matter. For what it is you cannot fault it but I can’t help feeling the bigger speakers in the range will give so much more “oomph” and weight to the music. Listening to music on the patio of an evening gave a very “local”; limited sound stage feel to the music, much as a pocket radio would have back in the day but with considerably better sound quality. If I was to describe the sound style I would have to say it is mid-range heavy then treble coming in behind and bass is a bit of an afterthought, although this little box is trying its hardest to make some! Without sound boost you have nothing more than a louder, clearer version of your phone speaker. The positive take of all this is you will be unlikely to upset anyone else in the park/beach/neighbours but still hear your media clearly where you are. Watching YouTube videos using the speaker was a mass improvement than from the phone speaker and Netflix was great also allowing speech to be heard clearly over the booms and bangs. I have found conference calls really good on this speaker allowing me to become totally headset free and a mass improvement from the phones built in speaker. In conclusion this is a nice little speaker, accept its sound limitations for the fantastic portability and enjoy it for what it is. I would be interested to see what two of them paired together would sound like (an option on this device) but suspect buying the larger versions in the range would give a better, one box solution if a bigger sound stage was what you were after.

    Top of the line

I was a bit doubtful about this speaker when I unboxed it because of the size but I was surprised how powerful it is and how solid it looks. The sound quality is crisp clear and just awesome and I would consider this speaker as one in the top of the line. The battery life is a plus as well since it lasts 10 hours and I don't need to charge it every now and then which was a downside for my old speakers. This speaker connects to my devices easily and the buttons are simple and do not make any fuss to play my favorite music. Perfect to bring whenever you go outdoors for a picnic and I can’t wait to use it on a mountain camping, would recommend!
