Small and punchy fully-featured little hi-fidelity Bluetooth speaker!

    5/5
I have been looking for a pocket-sized Bluetooth speaker but been put off as have not wanted to compromise on features or sounds quality. Very impressed with the LG Xboom PL2 it has all the features you need but in a small almost pocketable experience. The unit itself is beautiful dark grey colour and is a pill-like shape, one feature I like is all the buttons are “clicky” which you don’t usually get which makes this speaker feel “premium”. The unit is also fully IPX5 certified meaning you can safely pop it next to the pool or in the bathroom to bring your tunes anywhere! This little speaker has the tech/features including the latest Bluetooth support, AAC HD audio codec, and full app support, including firmware upgrades. The speaker has “Meridian” tech inside which would explain why this speaker packs a punch considering its tiny size. If you are expecting mind-blowing bass do not get this speaker as its too small but contemplating its size a delivers a well-rounded listening experience at volumes that a speaker of this size should not get too. Also in this small magic pill, LG has managed to squeeze in a mighty 10 hours of playtime battery, in practice, this appears to be accurate as had it on the side playing during a BBQ and it lasted the whole time. Another point which shouldn’t be a feature in 2020 is that it fast charges over USB-C, but cheaper speakers still come with mini B in 2020 which means they are a no-buy for me so happy LG is with the times. This lack of punchy bass to me is a compromise worth paying for the size of this speaker as you don’t lose out of the fidelity of the music, a pleasant “loud” listening experience in a tiny package is Overall very happy with this speaker which is fully loaded with tech and features into a diddy great sounding speaker well done LG!

Excellent portable speaker, for indoor and outdoor use.

I have been using this speaker for about 2 weeks now, and I have to say I can't imagine getting a better speaker for anywhere near the same price range. Straight from the box, it has such a sleek and simplistic aesthetic, and this is mirrored in the ease of use. Simply tap the on button and find it in your Bluetooth settings and it connects instantly, no hassle. Flicking between multiple devices is so simple, which is great for parties and barbecues. Despite being fairly compact, the sound quality is excellent and more powerful than I was expecting. Its max volume goes louder than similar speakers I have had in the past, although I haven't had to put it to max rather than testing it out. The charging ports for the device are hidden in a side panel, with a lid which adds to the overall look. Also within this panel features an auxiliary slot, which is great for devices that don't have Bluetooth, and a 'dual' button for pairing multiple speakers. I haven't tried either of these functions yet. As well as around the house and garden, one of the reasons I bought this speaker was for at my work. I work outside the majority of the time and the portability mixed with the waterproof rating mean this is the perfect device for me. I would recommend this device to anyone interested, and can't wait to keep using it throughout barbecue season and all seasons at my work.

    Great speaker small and mighty

Think of when you actually got something you wanted for Christmas down to the T. This feeling is what this speaker gave me and i was wonderfully surprised by far one of my top purchases. The design is sleek and modern looks attractive and its lightweight. Its simple to set up right out the box you really don't need to read the instructions. The charging port is hidden away cleverly and it uses USB charging so simple to add to your life since many devices now use this. The sound is crisp and clear even when turning the volume up to max and the super base feature is a really nice touch and doesn't distort the sound. The size means it has great portability i took this with me to the park and I now couldn't imagine not taking it its fab. There is an app that you can download to use with the speaker but it doesnt really add much more in my opinion however it is the 1st speaker I have personally owned that has an app to use with it. It had no trouble pairing with my phone every time and makes a beep to confirm the connection the connection was never lost when I would move my phone away from the speaker to the other side of my house which is brilliant. Also more than one device can be connected at a time great for when you want to swith djs smoothly! The battery life lasts quite long and thats even with the super boost on meaning you can play your music or audio book or whatever for a long enough time to really get into the zone before you have to think about charging. It also tells you when the battery is low which is also a nice feature so it won't just suddenly cut out on you. This little speaker does a great job it gets the thumbs up from me for usability and aesthetics. Seems sturdy and durable.

    Great little speaker

First visual impressions of this little speaker it’s pretty good, very solidly made with a decent weight to it. USB C charging is a very welcome feature as I’ve lost so many devices to broken micro USB charging ports. In terms of setup, f you have ever paired a Bluetooth device in the past you will be up and running in seconds. I’ve got an iOS device so could not use the XBOOM App. However, to ensure I had the latest updates on the device, I had downloaded it on my Android device to update the hardware. When I first paired the speaker it was a pleasant enough sound, the bass was better than you would expect from such a small box and mids/highs are very clear however once I hit 75% of max volume the sound became distorted, more so when the sound boost was engaged. The software update fixed this issue. I can now go to full volume without too much distress on the sound quality. Battery life is sucked out when on high volume will sound boost on using 50% in two and a half hours. Anything under 30% max volume was inaudible from my iPhone 8 Plus and 40% of max volume is very low unless you are sitting right next to it in silence. As it is water resistant, I’ve set it up as my morning radio for listening to and the fact that it’s got battery saving it just turns itself off and prolongs the battery life. As for sound quality, sadly size does matter. For what it is you cannot fault it but I can’t help feeling the bigger speakers in the range will give so much more “oomph” and weight to the music. If I was to describe the sound style I would have to say it is mid-range heavy then treble coming in behind and bass is a bit of an afterthought, although this little box is trying its hardest to make some! Without sound boost you have nothing more than a louder but clearer version of your phone speaker. The positive take of all this is you will be unlikely to upset anyone else in the park/beach/neighbours but still hear your media clearly where you are. In conclusion this is a nice little speaker, accept its sound limitations for the fantastic portability and enjoy it for what it is. I would be interested to see what two of them paired together would sound like (an option on this device) but suspect buying the larger versions in the range would give a better, one box solution if a bigger sound stage was your goal.

    Great Portable Speaker

This device may be small but still gives great sound quality. It is well built with some great additional features. It is very easy to setup and pair with your device, simply power on and the press the Bluetooth button and it’s paired, I like that you can pair more than one device at a time to it as well, so if your or your partners phone is running out of battery you can change who’s device is playing music. The battery life is very good for a device so small, I have mainly used it outdoors in the garden and it lasts for most of the day. Charging the device is quick and easy using the USB port on the right hand side of the speaker Overall a very good speaker for the price, sound quality is excellent, it’s portable and battery life is good, nothing negative to say about the product, go out and get one.... you won’t regret it!!

    Mini and Mighty

    4/5
The LG Xboom Go PL2 may be smaller than you expect when it arrives but don't let it's small form put you off as it performs very well for it's size. The feel is a nice warm soft touch rubberised finish with muted clicky buttons to get to all the functions you'd need, power, volume & Bluetooth. Pairing with my phone was a breeze and it's small size means it's a go anywhere speaker. Couple that with it's inherent waterproof to 1m capabilities and you're good to go, indoors and out, whatever the weather. Sounds wise it won't rock your world with deep bass but it's plenty loud enough for outdoor use and more than enough for it's size, just don't crank it up 10 100% as there's a little bit of distortion. Charging is via USB C using the included cable. I've used this mainly outdoors since receiving it while working on many DIY projects. It's rugged feel means I don't mind if it rains or gets covered in sawdust. All in all I'm really pleased with it and would be happy to take it away whenever we travel as it's small enough to fit into any bag.
