Good cooking but poor cleaning and door glass cracked first time on self-clean

    2/5
Once we had got used to oven operating instructions it cooked really well. Great with spit for roasting and good range of different settings. Bought it to replace another Hotpoint pyrolytic oven when we had new kitchen fitted. Old oven was great at self-cleaning. We used the pyrolytic cleaning function on the new oven and it didn't clean oven whatsoever and glass oven door cracked in multiple places. Hotpoint customer service useless and refused to sort it. Now can't use oven until we pay £100+ to replace glass.

    Good oven, frustrating control system

    3/5
Quite complicated to use, we still have the instruction booklet out next to the oven after 2 weeks to refer to the different functions. Haven't yet managed to get the grill setting to work for example, probably user error or it may only work when the oven door is closed but still experimenting. The timer function is not separate to the oven settings which is quite frustrating and not necessarily available on all setting types, we have ended up using a separate timer since it is such a hassle to modify. Without setting a countdown timer the display counts up when the oven is turned on which is useful when actively cooking on the hob at the same time. Very minor point that the black touch buttons show up every fingerprint, might be a bigger issue for some. Otherwise, the day to day oven functions work well, it is plenty big enough for a small family and it seems to be energy efficient as advertised according to the smart meter - still too new to have used the self cleaning setting. And do make sure to run the oven for an hour at 200C as suggested in the instruction booklet with the windows open, the new oven smell (totally normal) is one to purge ASAP!

    Terrible customer service from hotpoint

    3/5
Have had to have a hinge and a the lamp cover replace and both times the customer service was awful. Send out an engineer without you being able to talk to to them so had to order parts and then book another appointment. I’m still waiting for the bulb cover to be delivered and no one can tell when that will be. The pyro cleaning function is disappointing as well.

    Too complicated

    3/5
it's very complicated to use. The instructions are not detailed enough. The cleaning function does not work well. There are a few good features, the rising function for bread. Automatic function for poultry. Why so many programmes, just like washing machines, we don't need them. The clock is very dim and the timer very quiet. Would not buy again

Good for cooking, not so great at 'self' cleaning.

Had the oven for a week now. The first time I used it I was worried that the food was not cooked thoroughly as the colouring was very pale but I put it on for the 5 minutes browning that came up at the end of the cooking time and the food was delicious. Cooked all the way through and tasted really juicy but crispy. I have used it every day now to cook meals and baked a cake and everything has come out perfectly, especially when it has the extra 5 minutes browning at the end. Yesterday I decided to try a rotisserie chicken. That was disappointing. I think the chicken must have been too heavy as it ended up falling off the turnspit so once the cooking time was complete the chicken had dried out. Next time I will try a smaller chicken or cook it for less time. I was puzzled on just how long I should cook it for so cooked it for the usual amount of time, this might have been my mistake but I am still learning. After cooking the chicken I put the oven on for its first pyrolytic cleaning. I chose the quick option (2 hours) as it was not too dirty. I put the shelves and sides in the dishwasher. The oven does get very hot and doesn't smell particularly nice but didn't smoke at all. The smell did get a little strong but I closed the kitchen door and opened a window and it was fine. It did take another 45 minutes after cleaning was complete for it to cool down and allow me to open the door. Well to say I was disappointed is an understatement. There was barely any ash and all the drips and dirt were still clearly visible. Especially on the door and bottom edge of the oven. It seemed that for almost 3 hours it had done nothing, even after wiping over with a cloth. I will try the longer setting next time but don't hold out much hope it will make it any better. Very disappointing when you've spent a lot of money for a self cleaning oven that I will probably end up having to clean myself anyway.

    Nice looking oven

    4/5
Very nice looking but a bit disappointed that the oven door cannot be removed for cleaning and pyrolytic cleaning not as efficient as I would have liked. I still needed to clean inside quite vigorously after using the spit roast. I haven’t used all the automatic settings yet but so far very pleased with how it cooks.
